After reading Rich's comment about the apple pancake from Original Pancake House, all I could do was thinking about it and thinking about it.  I couldn't wait any longer.  Gotta try it!  So on the last day of 2010, we went to Original Pancake House for the last breakfast of the year.  We arrived around 10am, and there were sooooo many people waiting both outside and inside.  But we only waited for 30 minutes for a table.  Wasn't too bad at all.

Corned Beef Hash ($11.50)
Our http://www.eileenlikestoeat.commade hash, a blend of kosher corned beef, potatoes, onions and cream. Served with four Potato Pancakes or Toast.

Dr. P ordered Corned Beef Hash.  It was one of their house specialties.  It tasted very very fresh and well made.  We broke the poached eggs on top and mixed the corned beef hash with running yolk.  It was super tasty that way.  The potato pancakes were just as great as we remember from last time.

Apple Pancake ($10.50)
Oven baked with fresh granny smith apples and pure Sinkiang cinnamon glaze.

I ordered the famous Apple Pancake.  It was a GIANT pancake.  I've never seen pancake this big before.  I love the smell of cinnamon and apple when the waitress brought the pancake to the table.

This was a little different than what I imagine it would be.  I thought it would be regular pancake, maybe 3 or 4, and topped with apple and cinnamon glaze.  But it was one big thick pancake.  The pancake was soft, and tasted almost like Asian steamed egg.  It was good.  But I think I still like regular pancake better.  I ate 1/4 of it and was completely stuffed.

I already know what I want to try next time.  Strawberry Pancake!  I saw someone ordered it and it looked so good with fresh strawberry on top.  We really like this place.  But yeah, it's a little pricey. Dr. P and I decided that we'll come once a month. So 12 visits to the Original Pancake House next year to try 12 different pancakes. Woohoo~~~~

  1. Holy moly, that apple pancake looks AMAZING!! And right up my alley. I'd definitely eat that over regular pancakes with apple glaze any day of the week.

Really? I still like regular pancake better. haha...
But that apple pancake is probably the most popular item.
I saw soooo many people ordering that.

  3. Yes, thats the apple "pancake" that I remember----but it sure doesn't resemble a traditional pancake, huh? Its more like a rich desert item that needs to be shared. I believe that most other "pancake" items look like pancakes and you would probably enjoy their strawberry pancakes. By the way, I LOVE the strawberry syrup that is poured on the soft-serve sundaes at Costco (I get one of them whenever I'm in line for their $1.50 jumbo hotdog/drink special). The funny thing is that I don't care much for the taste of their vanilla soft-serve---probably because its fat-free. I wish that more places that serve ice cream or pancakes used Costco's strawberry syrup.

Rich Rich Rich, you're doing it again!
Why do you always post comments that make me crave for something badly?
Now I want to go to Costco to get a berry sundae... just like last time you made me want to have the apple pancake.
    hahahaha....
Yeah, exactly how we felt... the apple pancake was more like a dessert that was meant to be shared.
It was soooo big, and got a little too much. I think regular pancakes are a little lighter.
I am going to try strawberry pancake next time.
I'll let you know if the strawberry syrup can compare to Costco's. haha...

  4. I looked up the several OC locations of the Original Pancake House on Yelp just so that I could see photos of various dishes. One photo showed strawberry pancakes but they didn't have much syrup on it---but fresh-cut strawberries and whipped cream (maybe strawberry syrup can be added from bottles on the table?). I haven't had the Costco strawberry sundae in about one year, so I hope its still the same extra-tasty one that I remember they had (much better than the strawberry syrup served at McDonalds & Tasty Freeze). I have tried their Kirkland-brand hotdogs and they taste verygood to me---but I know lots of people were disappointed when they switched from serving Hebrew Nationals (For $1.50 + refillable drink its STILL the best deal in town!).

    I saw someone ordered it.
I just saw a lot of fresh strawberry on it. Looked really good.
I LOVE Costco hot dog. I almost always have one when I go there.
Also I always get their berry smoothie. I like the sundae, too. :-)

  5. I saw a photo on Yelp showing the cocoanut pancakes at the Original Pancake House---they looked great. It looked like their regular pancakes but with lots of shredded cocoanut flakes on top and its served in lemon sauce. I wonder if I would like it? Oh, one last thing about Costco's berry sundae ---its made with a vanilla fat-free soft-serve (which doesn't taste as good as regular ice cream), BUT the strawberry syrup probably has lots of calories in it! (its thick and sweet with nice chunks of strawberry).
I actually like the fat-free soft serve ice cream.
It makes me feel less guilty when I eat it. haha...
Coconut pancake with lemon sauce sounds yummy.
I have so many things I want to try from Original Pancake House now.
