We had my sisster's birthday dinner at RH Restaurant & Bar in West Hollywood.  I bought a $45 - 6 course dinner for 2 deal from BloomSpot.  The menu looked good and fancy.  So off we went.  Man, West Hollywood is far, especially during traffic.  Thursday night traffic was horrible on the 101 and driving down Sunset Blvd.  It took so long, and my sister started to feel carsick.

We finally got there after driving for 1+ hour.  RH is located inside the Andez Hotel.  Valet parking only.  It's a beautiful and very modern hotel.  They had an art exhibit showing photos, posters, drawings, and everything Ozzy Osburne on the second floor when we went, which was in September.  I wonder if it's always there, or they change the artworks periodically?  RH Restaurant is on the first floor.  Their open kitchen is beautiful.  Even their "refrigerator" was made with glass.  We could see all the fresh produce in there.

Bread

Our waitress was a girl with cute pixie haircut.  Every time she brought out a plate, she would tell us a long "script" of what it was, how it was made, or just something about the dish.  She would deliver the speech in a way like she was memorizing it.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I guess it'll be a good training for actors, assuming all the waitstaff in Hollywood are some sort of actors.  We couldn't help but thought, man, that was a hard waitressing job to have to memorize all that about every single dish.

Hudson Valley Foie Gras Terrine ($18.00)
grape marmalade, arugula, http://www.eileenlikestoeat.commade brioche

We thought the deal was for 6 course dinner for 2 people, meaning each person gets 6 dishes.  But it was actually 6 dishes to share between 2 people.  It worked out because we were still quite full from our late lunch.  First course was Hudson Valley Foie Gras Terrine.  The Foie Gras was creamy and very very rich.  First few bites, we thought it was delicious.  But toward the end, we both felt the thick Voie Gras to be a bit too heavy.

Escargot a la Perigourdine, Prosciutto la Quercia ($14.00)
roasted baby heirloom potatoes, parsley, garlic

I like Escargot.  They did a good job on Escargot a la Perigourdine.  The escargot was cooked with prosciutto with a yummy garlicky sauce.  The potatoes were super flavorful.  I wish there were more sauce for bread dipping.

Seared Diver Scallops ($24.00)
girolami farm chestnut and celery ragout, black truffle

Next came the main courses.  Seared Diver Scallops was cooked perfectly.  The scallopes were still very soft on the inside.  The celery rogout was delicious.  Very light, but compliment the scallop well.

Homemade Crispy Hudson Valley Duck Confit ($24.00)
sauteed potatoes, green onion, garlic, parsley

I believe our waitress said Homemade Crispy Hudson Valley Duck Confit was one of the chef's signature dish.  Well, it was quite disappointing.  The skin was crispy, a little too crispy.  I think it might be overcooked because the meat was also very dry.  On top of that, we thought the sauce was too salty.  I really like the sauteed potatoes and mushroom on the side though.

Warm Cherry Clafoutis with Crème Fraiche and Homemade Cherry Liquor

Warm Cherry Clafoutis looked good, but it tasted like bad pudding.  We just didn't like the gelatin like pudding texture.  We ended up picking out the cherry to eat only.

Araguani Chocolate Pie with Frozen Praline Bar and Roasted Hazelnuts

Araguani Chocolate Pie was good, but super rich.  We could only eat about half of it.

We were expecting a lot from The Michelin Star Chef, Sebastien Archambault.  However, we both thought the dinner was a little disappointing, especially we drove that far in traffic for it.  Our $20 lunch at Harbor Kitchen was much much much much better.  Maybe my sister and I just don't have the taste buds for expensive Michelin Star French cuisine, and we like your normal everyday food better.  haha....  But still, it was a good experience though.  And most importantly, I had fun hanging out with my sister.  Happy birthday, sister!  Wait.... we got one more stop.

  2. This is funny, because I had the exact same reaction as you after the meal except I didn't like the Escargot. I was glad that I get to try the restaurant through BloomSpot, elsewise I would kill myself for paying full price.

haha I thought the same thing... Glad I didn't have to pay full price for it.
