I bought 2011 Entertainment Book for Orange County.  I've always been a fan of the money saving coupon book.  Also I thought it would be fun to explore new restaurants in Orange County using the book.  Our first restaurant to try was New Shogun Restaurant.

It was a weeknight and the restaurant was pretty packed.  There are two sides, Teppenyaki side and regular Japanese restaurant side.  They also have a small bar area.  We opted for Teppenyaki for the night.

Kurosawa Cold Sake ($11.00)
Medium dry and rich taste

Dr. P ordered Kurosawa Cold Sake.  I thought it was too expensive, but Dr. P insisted.  I think I would rather order a sushi roll for $11.00.

Soup

Our meal started with soup.  The soup had clear broth, and I could taste shallot in it.

Salad

We like the ginger dressing for the salad a lot.

Fried Rice ($3.00/person)

You gotta order Fried Rice at Teppenyaki restaurant!  Fried Rice is always buttery, fatty, and goody.

There's our Teppenyaki chef.  He's a very funny Vietnamese guy who had lots of funny jokes to tell.  We shared the table with another couple.  I thought the guy who sat across from us looked a lot like Dr. P, right?  On the table, you can see the chef was getting ready to the the ultimate "trick" for teppenyaki, The Volcano.

T'here's the big fire from the volcano.  Ahhhhh....

Dipping Sauces

Before putting food on our plates, the chef served some dipping sauces.  There were a sesame soy sauce, and a similar tasting sauce but with grated daikon.  I thought there's usually a thousand-island dressing sort of sauce for vegetable and seafood?  But apparently this place doesn't have it.

Shrimp Appetizer

Then the food started coming.  First, we all got 3 pieces of shrimp for appetizer.  I didn't even know they have that.  It was a pleasant surprise, and I was glad I didn't order shrimp as my entree, too.

Vegetables

Next was sauteed vegetables.  There were onion (from the volcano), zucchini, carrot, and mushroom.

Orange Roughy ($18.95)

We ordered fish and steak to share.  Orange Roughy was soft and tender.

New York Steak ($21.95)

New York Steak was also soft and tender.

Bean Sprout

Teppenyaki meal always ends with crunchy bean sprout.

I like New Shogun.  A funny teppenyaki show and dinner with buy 1 get 1 free coupon, pretty cool!
