Last time we went to Huntington Beach, we passed by Gyu-Kaku on the way http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  I remember many years ago I went to Gyu-Kaku in Beverly Hills for my sister's birthday.  The food was good, but really expensive.  Also years ago when I was working in Torrance, I often went to Gyu-Kaku for their lunch special.  Dr. P has never been to Gyu-Kaku.  I wanted to take him there to try their Japanese BBQ.  After looking at their website, I found out they offer all you can eat now.  For all you can eat lunch, it's only $12.95/person.  What a deal!

We went on Friday, and this place was packed.  Besides the lunch time special, it was also happy hour.  So people can order appetizers for really cheap price, too.  We ordered two Sapporo draft for happy hour price of $1.49 each.

Dipping Sauces

Two kinds of dipping sauce, regular and spicy.  The spicy sauce tasted sweeter.  I like the regular sauce better.  But all the meats were marinated and didn't really need the dipping sauces.

Food was cooked on charcoal grill to get that special charcoal smoked flavor.  For the $12.95 all you can eat, there were 4 types of meats and 2 vegetables.  There's also a $17.95 AYCE for 5 types of meats and 3 vegetables plus bibimbap rice.  Then you can add $2 more to get one more type of meat and garlic noodle.  We opted for the $12.95 because we thought... how much can you eat anyway?  Even though there are more variety of food in the $17.95 deal, we could only eat so much.  So we rather just focus on the 4 types of meat and eat as much of that as we could.  If we come with a bigger group, then I wouldn't mind trying the more expensive combo for a variety of dishes.

Edamame

Edamame with coarse salt sprinkled on top.

Miso Soup

Two bowls of miso soup for us.

Salad

I didn't like the salad.  The dressing had too much sesame oil and tasted really strong.  They also gave us two big bowl of rice.  I think they wanted to fill us up with rice so we wouldn't eat too much meat.  haha...

Kalbi Chuck Ribs

Kalbi Chuck Ribs was our favorite meat.  Juicy and fatty and yummy.

Yakishabu Beef

Yakishabu Beef was a thinner cut of beef.  The meat cooked really quickly.  We like the marinate of this meat a lot.

Chicken Cajun

Chicken Cajun was good, but it was my least favorite.  I always trouble cooking chicken on the grill.  I'm always to cook it not long enough, then end up cooking it for too long.  The Cajun seasoning was good.  I just don't like cooking chicken on grill.

Spicy Pork

Spicy Pork was really spicy.  I could taste Korean chili paste in it.  I could finish all of my rice just with this spicy pork.

Zucchini

I love zucchini on grill.

Broccoli

Broccoli was cooked inside foil on the grill.  Look at that kalbi with veggies!  So yummy looking.

We like everything, and ordered second round of all the meat and veggies.

Then two more plates of our favorite kalbi.

All that for $12.95/person.  So worth it!  Dr. P said he likes Japanese BBQ more than Korean BBQ.  It's more "delicate" and "elegant", he said.  We like this $12.95 all you can eat lunch a lot.  Good food and good value.  Will definitely come back again.

  1. Blah, they don't have the $12.95 AYCE at the Pasadena location. :(

$20.95 AYCE for lunch is the cheapest in Pasadena?
That's expensive! You just have to take the kids and hubby down to Huntington Beach now. haha...
