NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Blue Lagoon Snack

After dinner, Dr. P went to the cigar lounge to have some man fun. I stayed in the room to relax... by playing some computer games. Yes, I brought my laptop so I can play games and watch DVDs. Yes, I am a nerd and proud of it. After Dr. P came back to the room, we weren't exactly hungry. But we just wanted to go get some food from Blue Lagoon only because it was available. We decided to bring some food back to the room and watch a DVD before going to bed.

Artichoke Dip

I thought the artichoke dip with chips would be a good snack to watch a DVD with.  But the artichoke dip wasn't that good.  It was like water down cheesy soupy dip.  We didn't really like it.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Aqua Main Restaurant Dinner

We took a nap after coming back to the cruise since we woke up at 6am that day. I love traveling on the cruise because you can play, sleep, wake up, walk out of your room and eat (and eat some more).

Mojito  ($7.48)

Dr. P was in the mood for mojito.  This was a terrible mojito.  It tasted like very little lime and mint in club soda water.  This was not how mojito should taste like.  Yuck!

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Versailles Main Restaurant Lunch

After the horseback riding tour, we went back to the cruise to clean up and have lunch at Versailles.

We started the meal with seafood cocktail.  It had shrimp and imitation crab meat.

As part of the tour, Randi took us to Victor's Restaurant on the beach for a drink.  I went to use the restroom in the back.  And there was no door and no light!  Oh well, if nobody minds, I didn't mind either.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Stone Island Beach Horseback Riding

After reading tons of great reviews about Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan on CruiseCritic.com, I booked the excursion right away.  The horseback riding tour was about 3 hours long for $45/person.  It also included a cold drink or beer at a local Mexican restaurant on the beach.  We met with Randi after getting off the cruise.  She was an American woman who moved to Mazatlan from Arizona about 18 years ago.  She was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the town during our ride to the ranch.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 4 by you.

There were 6 of us on this tour that day.  They assigned horses to us according ot our riding experience.  My horse was very mellow.  He likes to walk slow.  But when I told him "andale", he would start running.  Very smart horse.  Dr. P got a horse that thought he was in the Kentucky Derby race.  That horse had to lead.  Every time I caught up to Dr. P, his Blanco started racing again.  The first part of the ride was through the coconut and mango grove.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Mazatlan, Mexico

We booked a horseback riding tour for Mazatlan. Met our guide at the port. Then went to the ranch by truck, boat, then truck again. The taxi at Mazatlan was small truck with seats on the back. It was the first time I sat on the back of the truck like that with no seat belt. Dangerous, but fun in a way. Mazatlan is not as touristy as Cabo San Lucas. The small and rustic town was quite charming. Lots of horses and tractors on the road. Many households had pets that can also be... food. Chicken, duck, goat, and pig. Lots of skinny and friendly dogs running around as well.

I'll give you a little history of the town with my pictures.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 4 by you.

Mazatlan is the northernmost link in the Mexican Riviera Resort Chain.  Mazatlan sits on a small peninsula nearly 1,000 miles south of the border with the U.S.  The Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortes converge offshore.  Several steep hills border the otherwise flat city.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 4: Versailles Main Restaurant Breakfast

We arrived in Mazatlan on Day 4. We woke up super early to enjoy a relaxing breakfast before we headed out to town.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 3: Aqua Main Restaurant Dinner

We tried to go to Versailles Main Restaurant for dinner, but since we were wearing jeans, they wouldn't let us in. They had a rule of no jeans allowed after 5pm. So we went to the more casual Aqua Main Restaurant for dinner. Both main restaurants serve exact same menu, but usually Aqua has longer wait.  I guess most people don't feel like dressing up every night for dinner when they are on the cruise just to relax.

After putting our name down with the hostess, we waited for about 20 minutes for a 2 person table.  I like the little sparkly lights on the ceiling.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 3: Tequila Shark Bar Snack

After our ATV tour, we still had about one hour before we need to go back to the cruise.  We walked around the marina and decided to get a drink.  Tequila Shark Bar was the most popular restaurant/bar at the marina so we joined the crowd.

We sat at the outdoor seating area overlooking the marina.  The weather was really nice.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 3: Migrino Beach ATV Tour

We wanted to do one shore excursion each day we stopped at a port.  For Cabo San Lucas, we picked Migrino Beach ATV Tour.  If you want to save money, DO NOT book shore excursion through the cruise.  Price is almost doubled.  We booked the tour through Cabo San Lucas Tours.  The 3 hour tour cost $67.50 for 2 people.  The tour company sent someone to pick us up on a Mercedes Benz shuttle bus.  Taking about luxury tour, haha....  The shuttle ride to Migrino Beach was about 30 minutes drive.

Our destination was Amigos Cabos Moto Rent.  We checked in at the counter.  Had to do a credit card deposit in case we damage the ATV.  They returned the receipt to us after the tour for us to tear it up.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 3: Cabo San Lucas

I took a lot of photos at Cabo San Lucas.  The scenic view was beautiful.  Big rocks, sandy beach and the ocean.  But the town by the port was very touristy.  All the stores sell the same thing.... your typical tourist hats, t-shirts, and useless souvenirs.  I like the beach a lot, but didn't care much for the tourist shops area.  NCL provided us a sheet of port guide which included Cabo San Lucas' history.  I will share the info along with the photos I took.

Los Cabos (The Capes) is not actually a town.  It is the name Mexican tourism officials bestowed upon two once-remote Baja California communities: Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo as well as the stretch of coast that connects them known as "the Corridor."

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 3: Blue Lagoon Breakfast

We arrived at Cabo San Lucas on day 3. We woke up early to go get the tickets for the tender boat. NCL was really unorganized about those "waiting-in-line" things. We waited for about 40 minutes to get our tickets to get off the ship. But before we leave the ship, gotta have some breakfast.

This was the view from our state room window when we woke up.  We were in Cabo!

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 2: Le Bistro Dinner

There were restaurants that required additional charge on the cruise. We were interested in the French, Italian and steakhouse restaurant. After viewing their menus, we chose the French restaurant, Le Bistro, to have dinner.

The surcharge was $15/person.  The restaurant was quite small comparing to the main dining room.  Service was much much better though.  The servers at the regular dining room were kind of robot-like.  They take your order, bring you food, ask you how everything is without smiling and sound like they don't really care but just require to do so, then they disappear.  And almost all of the servers were Asians (mostly Filipinos).  The servers at the paid dining room were mostly Europeans.  They were really polite and friendly, lots of smile, and they actually chatted with us and sounded like they actually care.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 2: Versailles Main Restaurant Lunch

We didn't like NCL's buffet at all. The food at the main dining room was much much better. One of the main dining room, Versailles, also served lunch. We had lunch there for the rest of the trip.

Just like menu, lunch menu also changed daily.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 2: French Wine Tasting

There were lots of activities to do on the day at sea.  Dr. P wanted to try the French Wine Tasting.  The cost was $15/person.  He participated, and I sat in.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 2 by you.

5 different wines.  I had a sip of each and really liked the Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse 2006 white burgundy.  Dr. P liked the Chateau Mont Redon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2004.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 2: Market Cafe Breakfast

Our second day on the cruise was spending at sea.  We slept in till 10am and headed to the Market Cafe for breakfast.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 2 by you.

The buffet style breakfast was a disappointment.  Potato and pastry was alright.  Everything else wasn't that good.  The scramble egg was more like "crumbled" egg.  It was horrible.

Bad breakfast.  We didn't want to come back here again.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 1: Blue Lagoon Snack

Every night there was entertainment. The first night was a welcome show. There were dancing and singing. After the show, we walked around and explored the ship. We were both a little sick from the ship moving so much around dinner time and didn't eat much. So we got hungry.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 1 by you.

We headed to the 24 hour Blue Lagoon for some snack.  This free restaurant serves diner style food.  Hamburger, sandwiches, fries, that sort of things.  The restaurant was packed with tons of people waiting.  We also saw a lot of people order the food for to go.  The server would wrap the plates and put it in a tray for you.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 1: Versailles Main Restaurant Dinner

NCL has "freestyle" cruising. At most cruise lines, you are assigned to have dinner at a certain time, at a certain restaurant, on a certain table shared with certain guests. But on NCL's ship, you can dine wherever you want, whenever you want. We really like the freedom. There were tons of restaurants on the ship. Two main dining rooms offer different menu daily and it's free. The other specialty restaurants have extra charge if you choose to dine there. There are French, Italian, Mexican, Asian and Steakhouse restaurants.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 1 by you.

For our first night, we went to Versailles Main Restaurant for dinner.  Sorry for the blurry picture.  The ship was moving like crazy the first night.  Versailles is the more upscale free option.  No jeans, shorts and tank top allowed after 5pm.  But they weren't too strict about it on the first night so we went in jeans.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 1: State Room 8576

After lunch, we headed to our state room.  Our luggage was already at the door.  But our key card didn't work.  Had to go to the front desk and waited in the long line with bunch of other guests with nonworking key card.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 1 by you.

Finally made it to our stateroom.  Our room number was 8576 on mid ship deck 8.  The ocean view room had a big window.  It was partly blocked by the lifeboat, but we still had a pretty good view.  The room was bigger than Carnival Cruise's room, which we went on before.  Last time we stayed in an inside cabin.  It was always dark.  With the big window this time, we got plenty of natural light.  What a big difference!  In the future, we would like to get a balcony room.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 1: Market Cafe Lunch

We were super hungry after we got on the ship and headed straight to the buffet on deck 12 for the lunch buffet.

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera Day 1 by you.

The buffet was really busy.  We patiently waited in line to get our food.

NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 1: Norwegian Star at Los Angeles Port

We decided to go on the Norwegian Cruise Line's 7 days Mexican Riviera back in October. We got a ocean view state room for the sale price of $379 per person. $379 for 7 days? That's only $54 a day, which includes EVERYTHING (well, except alcohol)! Unbelievable price. On top of that, each of us also got $50 on board credit. Price for the following week (this week) jumps up to $1,200 for a ocean view room because of the holiday season. We were really lucky to get the incredible price.

Semester is over!! I finished my last final today. Can't believe 16 weeks just went by like that! So we are taking a vacation.... TOMORROW! We are going on a 7 days cruise to Mexico. Gonna have so much fun. Can't wait!! I'm pretty sure I'll come back 10 pounds heavier. I promise there will be lots and lots of delicious food pictures to show. See you guys in a week!

Oh one more thing.  I have been so busy with full time school and full time work.  I just didn't have time to reply all the comments for the last few months.  But I did read all of them.  When I came back from my vacation, I have two months of vacation till spring semaster starts.  I will have all the time in the world to reply to every single comment.  ^^

Went back to Kuishimbo to grab dinner with some coworkers. We went on Sunday night and the restaurant was packed with people. The line to order was almost out the door. But last time I came here on a Sunday it was empty. Well, last time I came here there was a Hispanic man working behind the counter. This time there were two really cute Japanese girls working. I wonder if people were just there for these girls? haha....

Yakiniku & Chicken ($6.95)

This time I got yakiniku and chicken combo.  Coworkers told me the chicken they had before was a bit dry.  But I thought it was perfectly fine.  The BBQ beef was just as good as last time.  Super tender and flavorful.

3 Items Combo ($4.60)

The price for the 3 items combo has gone up to $4.60.  It used to be $3.50!  Oh well, it's still a pretty good deal.  You still get the soup, rice and boba milk tea with the combo.  I got steamed pork with egg, seaweed and eggplants.  Everything was tasty.  I like the eggplants a lot, but it was a bit oily though.

I was way too full after finishing the whole thing.  One combo is really too much food for one person.  I still think Oriental Express is the best Chinese 3 item combo restaurant in town.

After lunch at Gaby's, we grabbed another Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon from Entertainment Book and head to Westwood for boba.  Parking in Westwood is a pain.  So I got off the car to go buy the boba while Dr. P drove around the blocks.

Boba Loca was a small place.  It was packed when I went in.  Every table had people working on their computers.  Then I noticed, there were no Asian here.  Not even the clerks.  I am just so used to Boba places with Asian clerks.  After all, boba is an Asian thing, right?  I told the Caucasian clerk, "2 boba milk tea, please."  He replied, "uh... you mean TAPIOCA milk tea?"  Yes, I meant tapioca, a.k.a. boba, milk tea.  Boba is the name of your store!  Or would you like to change it to "Tapioca Loca" instead?

Boba Milk Tea @ Boba Loca by you.
Boba Milk Tea ($2.95)

It wasn't the best I've had, but the boba milk tea wasn't too bad.  It was probably the least boba I've gotten in a boba milk tea though.  I think I probably got 20 pieces of boba in my tea.  For $2.95 a cup, it's totally not worth it.  Even $2.95 for buy 1 get 1 free, I wasn't happy.

Going to Boba Loca for Boba is probably a Loca idea.

My parents come here at least once a week.  Well, it's really not that special.  No need to drive out to South El Monte for it.  There are much better Vietnamese restaurants out there.  But if you live in the neighborhood, I guess it's a pretty good place to grab a bowl of noodle.

This was the WORST three cup chicken I've ever had.  It didn't taste like three cup chicken at all.  Just tasted like soy sauce oily chicken.  It was drenched with yellow oil and it was gross.  The cabbage was cold and soggy... also gross.  The egg and tofu equally bad.  Even the rice was soggy and bad.  I had a bite of everything then threw it away.
