R.I.P. Mowgli & Twinkle

Back in August, my sister adopted two cats from the shelters.

Mowgli was adopted from San Gabriel Animal Shelter.  My sister picked him because he was so ugly and sad looking.  He had ringworm on his head so there was a big bold spot.  He also had respiratory problem so he always had eye boogers around his eyes.  He had diarrhea so he was stinky.  But he was the sweetest kitten ever!  Even though he was sick, he still liked to play.  He was a purrrrrr machine.  Loved to be petted.

My sister had been taking Mowgli to the hospital every few days for 3 months.  But Mowgli didn't get better.  The vet just kept on charging my sister more money for different medications and tests, but never had a correct diagnose.  Then Mowgli got worse and worse.  One day in October, he couldn't move anymore.  My sister rushed him to the vet.  They put Mowgli to sleep right there and told my sister that Mowgli had FIP, which is a deadly and contagious disease for cats.  So for 3 months, after all those tests, they didn't detect FIP until the day he died?  My sister was really angry about that.  That was just so wrong.

Twinkle was adopted from Pasadena Animal Shelter.  She had the prettiest blue eyes.  She had the same name as my puppy, Twinkle.  She was a 2 year old cat that was dropped off at the shelter by her owner because she couldn't take care of her anymore.  My sister thought it was weird her cat and my dog have the same name, but we both thought she should keep the name since Twinkle already knew her name.

Twinkle always moved so elegantly.  She was just a pretty cat.  She was very loving to Mowgli, always grooming him, licking him.  They liked each other very much.  They always played together, ate together, and slept together.  Twinkle was like a big sister and took really good care of little Mowgli.  After my sister found about about Mowgli's FIP, she took Twinkle in for a test right away.  Unfortunately, Twinkle already got the disease.  Seriously, we were soooooooo mad at the stupid vet at that hospital.  If they detected it early enough, maybe Twinkle would still be ok.  Twinkle lived for another month after Mowgli passed away.  It was really sad.  But my sister did her best to make Twinkle happy and comfortable for the last month of her life.

It was sad.  But I think my sister did good.  At least she gave Mowgli and Twinkle happiness and love for a few months.  Otherwise they would just die at the shelter.  I am kinda mad at San Gabriel Animal Shelter though.  They should do a thoroughly check  and make sure their animals do not have deadly contagious disease before adopting them out.  I would like to tell people not to go there to adopt, but at the same time, I don't want to say that because I still hope people give the poor animals there a chance.

One good thing, Kitty is ok.  She didn't get FIP and she's very healthy.  She was kind of a loner cat and didn't really like Mowgli and Twinkle.  She acted mad and sad all the time when Twinkle and Mowgli were around.  But now she's by herself again, she seems to be very happy.  It's so funny how all cats and dogs have such different personality, just like people.

R.I.P. Mowgli and Twinkle!  Even though I only met you a few times, I will remember you always!

  1. Ahh that is so sad. We adopted a kitty last Dec from San Gabriel too. But we take her elsewhere for check-ups.

My sister took the cats to another hospital, too... not the shelter one.
Well, I don't even know if they have one.
My sister said San Gabriel shelter looks really messy and dirty, like they don't have money at all.
All the animals there are crowded in cages... like 10 cats in one small cage.
There's pees and poos everywhere, and on the animals too.
    It's pretty sad there.
