Sister came to visit me down in Orange County.  I want to take to a really good place for dinner.  After looking through my old blog entries, I thought she would like K'ya Bistro.  The food is delicious there, and price is more than reasonable.  We went on a Sunday evening.  Laguna Beach was super busy, but we were lucky to find street parking.

Saddle Rock Chardonnay

It also happened to be OC Restaurant Week.  (This was way back in September....)  The Restaurant Week menu was the same as previous year's.  I wanted to try more new dishes, so we order one OC Restaurant Week set and some other dishes to share.  The Restaurant Week deal was $20 for 3 course with a glass of wine.  Really good deal!

Cheese Plate ($5.00)

Cheese Plate was only $5!  It had just enough for a great start of the meal.  I love the pungent blue cheese with sweet pear pairing.  Brie was really good with cranberry and nuts.  Love this little cheese plate with the wine.

Hawaiian Ahi Poke
Onion, seaweed, avocado, spicy soy

Hawaiian Ahi Poke was part of the Restaurant Week menu.  My sister thought the Ahi Poke was too salty and didn't like it.  I thought it was indeed a little salty, but with the fried wonton chips, it tasted pretty good.

Lobster Truffle Risotto
Caramelized onion, white wine, Parmesan cheese

Sister picked Lobster truffle from the selections of main entree on the Restaurant Week menu.  Risotto never sounded appealing to me for some reason.  I wasn't expecting much.  But after taking one bite, I started LOVING risotto.  It super creamy and just delicious!  Lots of lobster pieces in the risotto.  The leftover tasted just as good.

Curry Seared Wild Ahi ($10.00)
Organic brown rice pilaf, mango chutney

Curry Seared Wild Ahi looked so good when the waiter brought it to our table.  Even our next table neighbors asked what was the name of the dish.  They said they wanted to try it next time.  The Wild Ahi was seasoned with curry, but very mild.  It was good, but I was blown away by how good the risotto was, I just thought the Wild Ahi was alright.  The brown rice pilaf in this dish definitely didn't taste as good as the risotto.

Three Cheese Macaroni ($5.00)
Wild mushrooms, pesto, truffle crust, Parmesan, Gruyere, Gorgonzola

Three Cheese macaroni is THE dish I will order every time from now on!  It was just simple macaroni and cheese, but so cheesy and creamy and tasty!  The crusty bread crumbs on top added some texture.  My mouth is watering right now just looking at this picture.

Sweet Potato Fries ($3.00)

Sweet Potato Fries was yuuuuummmmmy!  My sister loves this one!  So do I.

Bread Pudding with Ice Cream

The dessert came with Restaurant Menu.  The banana bread pudding was good.  But we were too full to finish it.  :-(

We were both very very happy with dinner.  Sister said she really wishes there's a restaurant like K'ya Bistro in LA.  I saw on the bill that they have happy hour for 1/2 priced food.  Seriously?  Food is already soooo cheap here.  We gotta come back for happy hour one day.

  2. That is very inexpensive, especially for Laguna Beach! Not to mention it looks super delicious. :)

I know! The restaurant is actually inside a hotel, which is right by the beach!
