August 8th is Taiwanese Father's Day.  The number 8 is pronounced "ba", so 8/8 is "ba ba", which sounds like "dad" in Chinese.  Even though we've been in the U.S. for many many years, our family always celebrate Father's Day on August 8th.  Ever since the last time I visited Ruth's Chris, I've been wanting to take my dad here for some great steak.  All men like steak, right?

Bread & Butter

First of all, all the pictures from that night turned out bad.  The restaurant wasn't bright, but the pictures all came out super dark!  I'm so mad that I wasn't able to show how good the food was with my dark pictures.  Sorry guys!  Anyway....  We made reservation at 6:30pm.  There were a lot of people waiting for seats when we arrived.  But we were seated promptly, and started the meal with bread and butter.

Mixed Greens & Asparagus Salad
Field Greens served atop fresh asparagus, tossed with roasted tomato vinaigrette, garnished with grape tomatoes & Cajun pecans and topped with crispy onions

All of us went for the three course special.  The girls all chose Mixed Greens & Asparagus Salad.  There were not that much salad dressing.  The lettuce was so fresh that we really didn't need much dressing.  We got 6 long stalks of asparagus in the salad.  Love it!

Roasted Tomato & Crab Soup
A Roasted Plum tomato soup topped with crab meat and garnished with fresh basil

My brother and Dr. P ordered Roasted Tomato & Crab Soup.  There were a lot of crab meat in the soup.  The soup was rich.  It tasted very tomato-y and crabby!  haha....  My dad ordered Ceasar Salad.  He started eating right away before I could snap a picture.  He said the salad was pretty good.

Lamb Chops ($49.95)
Three chops cut extra thick, served with fresh mint. They are naturally tender and flavorful.

OMG!  Look how horrible the picture is!  This was dad's entree, Lamb Chops.  It was $49.95 for the 3 course special.  I suggested dad to order this dish.  But he thought it was really expensive for 3 pieces of lamb.  But we told him the lamb chops are "extra" thick, and insisted that it was his special day, and nothing is too expensive for him.  I had a bite of the lamb, it was smeared with butter and mint.  It was so good!  Dad only ate 1.5 of  the chops, and he was full.

Halibut ($39.95)

My brother's girlfriend Ayami ordered the fish of the day, Halibut.  I had a bite of the fish, and it was really soft.  She also said that there was mashed potatoes under the fish, and it was delicious.

6 oz. Filet & Shrimp ($39.95)
A 6-ounce medallion of our filet topped with jumbo shrimp

The rest of us all ordered the 6 oz Filet & Shrimp.  Last time we had one giant jumbo shrimp.  This time there were two smaller shrimp.  I like the jumbo shrimp much better.  The steak was great.  My mom likes it a lot.

Mushrooms

We also ordered a few different sides to share.  Mushrooms were juicy.  Where do they get those giant mushrooms?

Creamed Spinach

Creamed Spinach was just ok.  Nothing too special about it.  But my brother likes it.

1/2 Broiled Tomato

Broiled Tomato was really good.  I think it was drizzled with honey, so it tasted sweet on the surface.  THe tomato was really juicy.  Mom also likes it a lot.

Green Beans with Roasted Garlic

Green Beans with Roasted Garlic had no flavor and it was undercooked.  Nobody liked this one.

Mashed Potatoes

Mashed Potatoes was just as good as last time.  Really tasty.

Summer "Symphony" Selection
Duo of Fresh Berries with Sweet Cream & Raspberry Sorbet in a Chocolate Cup

Dessert was fresh berries with sweet cream and raspberry sorbet in a chocolate cup.  Both were great.

Dad enjoyed his Father's Day dinner.  Although he commented that he didn't want us to spend that much money on him.  But I know he was happy.  But comparing the Pasadena location to the Beverly Hills one we went to last time, Dr. P and I both thought the food and service were better at the Beverly Hills location.

Ahhh... still mad about the bad pictures.  But I had a great time dining with my family for Father's Day!

  2. Haven't been here yet although I have visited one in Seattle for free breakfast as it was included in the hotel rate. Food looks good like expected, even though the last few ended up being dark! Maybe using some other functions on your camera like a higher ISO or some flash (although it would be annoying to customers) would be helpful but personally I have never been in the situation before. I've seen some people use flashlights :).

    I don't think Ruth's Chris do breakfast.
The breakfast could be from the hotel's own kitchen, but using Ruth's Chris' restaurant for service.
