Wednesday was Chinese Valentine's Day.  We decided to go out to eat to celebrate.  Dr. P picked Taste of Asia as our destination.  Spicy Chinese food for Valentine's Day?  How romantic!  The restaurant was busy, with about 80% of non-Asian customers.  But I don't think the non-Asian customers ordered spicy dishes, but more like regular chicken or beef dishes.

風味冷菜 Cold Appetizer ($5.50)

Just like last time, we picked 3 appetizers from the cold dish counter.  Spicy beef, smoked chicken, and cold cucumber.  Everything was great.

麻辣豆花魚片 Hot & Spicy Fish Fillet with Soft Tofu ($11.99)

We decided to try all different dishes.  It was the first time Dr. P didn't order his favorite boiled fish & beef in spicy sauce at a Szechuan restaurant.  We ordered a similar dish, Hot & Spicy Fish Fillet with Soft Tofu.  The dishes looked similar, but the taste was completely different.  This dish had more of a bean paste taste.  There was no vegetable in this dish.  Lots of silky soft tofu.  Fish was really good.  Great dish to eat with rice.

幹鍋肥腸 Pig Intestine in Dried Pot ($12.99)

I wanted a intestine dish, and our waitress recommended Pig Intestine in Dried Pot.  Intestines were sauteed with leek and chili peppers.  Lots of intestine in the pot, unlike the last intestine dish we ordered (the intestine and pig blood in hot pot dish).  I love it.  Even Dr. P thought it was good.

酸辣包心菜 Sauteed Cabbage with Spicy Vinegar Sauce ($6.99)

Sauteed Cabbage with Spicy Vinegar Sauce was not that spicy.  It had a little bit of sourness from the vinegar.  It was really tasty.  The waitress mentioned a lot of "American" people like this dish.

We love the food at Taste of Asia.  Portion is huge.  We always have leftover to take http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com (and eat it for the next 3 days...).  This is THE place for spicy Chinese food in Orange County.

  1. Eileen,

Hi! They also have another location in Irvine which I believe is closer to your house. It is on Walnut/Jeffery, inside the 99 Ranch Plaza.

Yeah, Wen told me about it. But the Irvine location is cash only.
Maybe I'll give it a try next time.
