[Costa Mesa] [Japanese] Miyabi-Tei

Miyabi-Tei
665 Paularino Ave
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
(714) 754-7044

We wanted something quick and cheap for dinner.  Decided to go to Mitsuwa Supermarket because they have a food court, and we could do some grocery shopping after dinner.

We were tempted to get Santouka Ramen at one point.  But we've had it so many times in LA before, and we really wanted to try something different this time.  Besides Santouka, Miyabi-Tei had the most people waiting in line.  Must be good.

After paying for the order first, we grabbed a seat at the busy food court, and waited for our number to be called.

Pork Katsu Curry with Salad ($6.25)

I ordered Pork Katsu Curry with Salad.  I actually wasn't expecting much for some food court curry.  But surprisingly, the curry at Miyabi-Tei was really good.  It was just as good as places like Curry House or Hurry Curry, and the price is much cheaper.  The katsu was crispy on the outside, not too dry, perfectly tender.  Dr. P also really liked the curry, and he kept on eating from my plate.

Oyako Don ($5.25)

Dr. P got Oyako Don.  It came with miso soup, pickled radish, and tofu.  We didn't like the miso soup at all.  It tasted like mop water.  Actually it was kinda gross.  Pickled radish was alright, a little salty.  No special sauce for the tofu, just plain soy sauce.  So pretty much everything besides the oyako don was not that good.  But the oyako don itself was great.  We like the soft egg, onion, and tender chicken over a bed of rice.

I couldn't finish my curry rice.  Dr. P went to get a to-go box for me.  I was sitting alone being bored, and this is what I did with my leftover food for Dr. P.  Awwww.... isn't that sweet of me?  haha.....

I like Mitsuwa food court.  There's a Japanese style western food place that looked pretty good.  Their cakes also looked great.  I think I'm gonna go back to try that place next time.

  2. The Mitsuwa food court in Costa Mesa looks pretty big. I wish the San Diego one offered as much variety

I thought San Diego's branch must be big. But I guess not.
I heard Torrance branch is huge, too.

  3. You are right. The miso soup tastes like mop water. Yuck.

But I like the curry a lot. But I won't drink the soup next time.

  4. you should try their chicken katsu curry. it's even better. cripy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. but they only have it mondays, thursdays, and saturdays though.

    Yum, that sounds so good.
I will try to visit Mitsuawa food court on those days to try.
    Thanks for the recommendation!
