[Rowland Heights] [Japanese] Niko Niko Sushi

Niko Niko Sushi
19705 Colima Rd #9
Rowland Heights, CA 91748
(909) 598-7299

Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful movie.  I love all of Alice's dresses.  haha....  After the movie, we went o Niko Niko Sushi for a late lunch.  We went because my sister bought a $25 gift certificate from Restaurant.com.  We really had no idea if the restaurant is good or not, and exploring and trying new restaurant is always fun.

Niko Niko Sushi is inside a huge shopping plaza.  There is a Yogurtland and a Starbucks right there.  Perfect for afternoon snack after lunch.  (I was already thinking about what to eat after lunch BEFORE actually eating lunch. haha....)

Dynamite ($8.95)

In order to use the $25 GC, we have to order $50 of food.  Mom doesn't eat raw fish so we tried to order everything cooked.  I love Dynamite, and suggested to order one for appetizer.  The dynamite didn't look like normal dynamite, and it didn't taste like one, either.  There was no mayonnaise, no big piece of seafood, no vegetable.  It was a big piece of dried crab meat + bread crumbs kind of "pancake".  It was baked so the top layer was crispy, and layered with spicy sauce.  The waitress and the sushi chef were Koreans.  So I am assuming this is a Korean Japanese restaurant?  And this is a Korean style dynamite?  It wasn't too bad, but just not what I was expecting.  I wouldn't suggest order this item at Niko Niko Sushi.

Miso Soup

We ordered a lunch combo bento box to share.  It came with a bowl of miso soup. Mom had the miso soup, and said there wasn't anything special about it.

3 Item Combination Bento ($12.95)
Salmon Teriyaki, Sashimi, Sea Bass Misoyaki

Their 3 Item Combination Bento Lunch is a really good deal for $12.95.  We picked all fish items.  Salmon Teriyaki was tasty.  Sashimi came with 2 pieces each of albacore, salmon, and tuna.  Sea Bass Misoyaki was the best!  The fish was so soft, seasoned with miso, and grilled perfectly.  It was so good that mom said that if we come back again, we should order 3 item combo with all 3 items being the sea bass.  haha....

Caterpillar Roll ($10.95)
Eel, Avocado on California Roll

There are not much cooked rolls on the menu.  The first one we ordered was Caterpillar Roll, which was eel and avocado on California roll.  This was tasted pretty standard.  Nothing too special about it.

Snow Cone Roll ($11.95)
Baked Albacore, Lobster, Crab Meat, Avocado

Snow Cone Roll had baked albacore, lobster, and crab on top of California roll.  There were actually big chunks of lobster meat!  I like this one a lot.  I just couldn't get enough of baked mayonnaise!

Baked Salmon Roll ($10.95)
Baked Salmon, Smelt Egg on CA Roll

Baked Salmon Roll tasted very similar to Snow Cone Roll, but just with baked salmon with mayonnaise on top.  All of their rolls were on the sweeter side.

Our food costs about $55.  After using the $25 gift certificate, the bill comes to $47 including tax and tips.  The original bill was $72!  This restaurant is EXPENSIVE!  If I ever come back again (but I doubt it), I would definitely order their lunch bento, but probably not the rolls.

  1. What's up with the 18% tips?

They automatically add 18% tip when using Restaurant.com gift certificate.

  2. I'm glad that I found your blog because I am curious about this place and about using gift certificate from restaurant.com. I'm aware about the 18% gratuity but aren't they suppose to subtract $50 instead of $25 from your total bill? Thanks for sharing.

The GC is for $25, but we had to order minimum of $50 of food.
