[Anaheim] [Italian] Anaheim White House Restaurant

Anaheim White House Restaurant

I have so many restaurant gift certificate from Restaurants.com and Groupon.  For our weekday date night, Dr. P and I played our "restaurant" version of deal or no deal by putting a number on each gift certificate.  It was very nerdy, but fun.  haha....  Anyway, we ended up with a $25 gift certificate fro Anaheim White House.  Deal!

We made a reservation for 7pm.  The restaurant definitely stood out in this neighborhood.  It is valet parking only.  But we parked on our own on the side residential street, and probably saved $10 by doing so.

The restaurant was divided into different "president" rooms.  We were seated in the Ronald Regan room.  I wonder if guests can request to change room if they don't like that particular president?  haha....

Really cute napkin setting on the silver plate.

House Chianti ($9.50)

Dr. P ordered a House Chianti.  The wine was warm and smooth.  It paired with the meat dish perfectly.

Bread

Bread and butter.  Nothing too special here, but the butter sprinkled with roasted red pepper looked pretty.

Caesar Salad Donna Karen ($7.95)
Tender romaine hearts with Parmesan shavings and Caesar dressing, served in a rice paper nest

They have really creative names for their dishes, usually honoring a designer or a celebrity.  We ordered a Caesar Salad Donna Karen to share, and they split it for us.  I like how they place the salad inside a paper nest.  Very pretty.  But the salad itself was just your normal standard Caesar.  The taste didn't stand out.

Manzo Brasato Beckham ($31.95)
A White House Signature Dish.  Three hour braised beef in a Cabernet reduction with a touch of a horseradish

Dr. P's main dish was Manzo Brasato Beckhm.  It was a signature dish from this restaurant so it should be good.  The beef was braised for 3 hours.  But.... it wasn't as soft as we'd like it to be.  Some part of the beef was tough and a big dry.  The horseradish sauce was really good.  They decorated the plate with a giant eagle fried flat bread.

I told Dr. P that I wanted to take a picture of him, and he lifted up the plate.  I was like "why are you lifting the plate?"  He said, "because the eagle is flying!"  OMG he's such a dork!  hahahaha....

Chilean Sea Bass with Soft Shell Crab ($31.95)

I ordered the seafood special of the day, Chilean Sea Bass with Soft Shell Crab.  The food was dressed with a lemon caper sauce, but it didn't really have much taste.  The soft shell crab was very rich.  It was tasty, but a bit too oily.  Chilean sea bass was really good.  It was soft and flaky.  Side vegetable was zucchini and carrot, and a dollop of mashed potato.  My plate was decorated with butterfly flat bread, and I HATE butterfly.  Urgh!

Coffee

Dr. P ordered a cup of coffee to go with dessert.  Coffee was poured from a very pretty pot.  Our server said that if Dr. P can drink 85 cups of coffee, he gets to take the pot http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  I tried to encourage him to do so, but he ended up 82 cups short.

Grand Marnier Souffle ($10.95)
Grand Marnier souffle served with a Crème Anglaise, chocolate ganache and a Chantilly whipped cream

Grand Marnier Souffle takes about 25 minutes to make.  We saw other guests ordering the dessert right when they receive their entrees.  We ordered toward the end of finishing our entree, and had to wait a bit for it to arrive.  It came to the table piping hot.  Our server poured the chocolate and vanilla sauce on the souffle, and put some whipped cream on it for us.  We dug in, and it was so airy and soft.  It tasted like cloud!  Dr. P liked the fact that the souffle itself wasn't that sweet.  I like the dessert a lot, and blamed it for my 1 pound gain this morning.

By the time we finished our meal, the room was almost empty.  It's such a romantic and pretty place.

Our server gave us a gift at the end of the meal.  It was a recipe book with a DVD from 50 Orange County restaurant chefs.  Anaheim White House's chef is on the cover.  It was a great gift.  And we didn't see anybody else receiving this gift earlier.  Woohoo....  I like special treatment.  haha....

I think the decoration and the atmosphere of the restaurant deserves a 5 stars.  Service is 4 stars.  Our server was very polite, friendly, and professional.  But the busboy kept on dropping everything.  Food itself was only 3 stars.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good, either.  For the price, we expected a little more on the food, but left somewhat disappointed.  I still like the restaurant.  I think it'll be a good place to celebrate a special occasion.  Well, it's always fun to try a new place.  Love our date night!  ^^

  1. I noticed they didn't force the 18% tips on the check, how nice!!!

Yeah, I thought that was really nice.
Service was great, so we gave them 18% anyway.
But I like it better that it came from us, not forced.
Also.... they didn't charge us for the coffee. haha....

  2. I went there with my friends last month.
I did like their desert and chief special of that day...
The taste is not bad but the price is a little bit higher for me,lol.

Dessert was my favorite course from this restaurant, too. ^^

  3. Hi Eileen,

Great article. Love the pictures and insight. This place looks amazing. My husband and I have always wanted to try it. There's a website called www.friendlybargains.com that is actually offering a deal similar to Groupon. They are offering $70 worth of food for $35. It's perfect for those who's wanted to try it but a little overwhelmed by their prices.

Hey Maria. Thanks for the info about this new website. ^^
