Instant Dukbokki (Spicy Korean Rice Cake)

While grocery shopping at H-Mart, a Korean supermarket, I tried some spicy Korean rice cake from the food demo girl. I liked it, and picked up one to make at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com for Dr. P.

The instant dukbokki needs to be refrigerated.  One bag is more than enough for 2 people.  Each bag is $3.99.

Just like instant noodle, everything is included in the bag.  Of course you can add some fresh vegetable such as onion, carrot, and/or zucchini if you like.  There are rice cake, fish cake, spicy chili paste, and dried vegetable pack.

The fish cake needs to be cut into smaller size.

There is no English instruction on the bag.  I had to figure out how to cook it by looking at the picture.  First cook the rice cake and fish cake in some water.

Then add the spicy chili paste and dried vegetable, mix.

There!  A bowl of dukbokki that only took about 5 minutes to make.  I added the entire pack of spicy chili paste, and it was sppppppppicy!  Next time I probably would add a little less than that.  But the rice cake was chewy and tasty.  I like it!

  3. is the chilly sauce similar to bibimbap sauce? the whole packet is pretty cheap~~considering that restaurant sell dukbokki for at least $6~~

Yes, I think it's similar to it, but more spicy.
I want to try to make this on my own. All I need is to be rice cake, fish cake, chili sauce, and vegetable.

  5. lolz mang, cooking "real" dduk bokki is about as simple as instant DDB. you're hilarious! Bet you can make it BETTER too! throw some fried shallots, throw in some light soy, some white pepper, make it OG Taiwanese!

Yeah now I think about it, real Dukbokki is made exactly the same way as the instant one.
Might as well make a real one next time. ^^
