[Fountain Valley] [BBQ] 成吉思漢 Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ

I don't know why, but all of a sudden we both had craving for Mongolian BBQ.  We remember passing by Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ when we visited California Shabu Shabu before.  That restaurant seemed to have pretty good business.  Let's go give it a try.

Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ didn't have any window so we couldn't see the inside at all.

Because there is no window, the inside is a bit dark.  They were really busy on that Sunday night.

For $12.50, you get all you can eat Mongolian BBQ.  If you don't want to eat that much, there are other options for one serving of Mongolian BBQ.  We decided to go for the all you can eat option.

Egg Drop Soup

The Mongolian BBQ dinner came with soup, biscuit, some fried stuff, and rice.  Egg Drop Soup tasted like gooey "old washed cloth" water.  Very bad.

Baby Egg Rolls & Crab Rangoons

Baby Egg Rolls tasted alright.  It tasted kinda like the frozen egg rolls from Costco.  Crab Rangoons was just fried wonton with a little bit of cream cheese in the center.  No sight nor taste of crab whatsoever.

Pocket Biscuits

The pocket biscuits definitely needed a lot more sesame, and the texture just didn't taste right.

Let's go get some Mongolian BBQ.  There were 4 choices of meat, turkey, pork, lamb, and beef.  The meat was frozen, not too good, but not too bad either.  I guess you can just say it was acceptable.  I like lamb and pork the most.

Vegetable options were cabbage, bean sprout, potato, pineapple, red bell pepper, celery, onion, carrot, cilantro and green onion.

They have 3 kinds of soy sauce, not hot "spicy", medium, and mild.  The not hot "spicy" is really not hot and not spicy.  So why do they even call it spicy?  I don't know.  There were also very watery curry sauce, cooking wine, and big pieces of garlic in some kind of garlicky water.  There was a guideline on top of the sauce bar.  It said to add 4 spoonful of spicy + 1 spoonful of medium for each bowl for spicy.  We followed it and it was SUPER salty.  I found that 2 spoonful of spicy + 1 spoonful of medium was plenty.

All You Can Eat Mongolian BBQ ($12.50)

I had 3 bowls of Mongolian BBQ, but 2 bowls were too salty (when I tried 4 spoons of sauce, then 3 spoons of sauce) to eat so I didn't finish.  So actually I just had 1 bowl.  Their bowl is pretty small, too.  I definitely didn't get my money worth.  The sauce didn't taste that good to me, so I didn't bother to go back to get more food.

No, we didn't like Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ that much.  It's a cheap place that can get you really full, if you don't care about how the food taste like.  We thought Asian Garden in Duarte is much better, and cheaper, too.  Even Hokkaido has better Mongolian BBQ than Genghis Khan.  We are going to find a better Mongolian BBQ place next time we have a craving.  I don't think we'll come back here again.

    Mall裡那家我每次都看到外國人拿一大堆麵
    最後弄得跟一盤炒麵一樣
    其實麵是最不值錢的啊哈哈

  2. I also got a small stone/rock in one of my bites of food...

I really liked my old standby mongolian bbq in westwood, I didn't like Ghengis Khan.

    Me don't like either. :-(

  3. This is absolutely the best mongolian bbq place I have ever eaten at. Ive eaten at thousands of mongolian bbq places maybe even in the hundreds. Yes, I only eat mongolian bbq. So I should know, because I only eat mongolian bbq. The last guy found a pebble in his food? What the fuck are you talkin about? Sure it wasn't a gallstone falling out your pants? But again, this is the best mongolian bbq place I have ever eaten at. And I would know because I have eaten at thousands of mongolian bbq places across the globe and Orange County. This shit is good! Its ok though.

Hmmmm thank you for the comment.
But we had much better Mongolian BBQ elsewhere.

  4. Chinese BBQ. Isn't it? Usually Mongolians eat meat except chicken and fish. But this meals are cooked by vegetables.
anyway I see this restaurant's name is also wrong. not genghis khan, Chinggis khan is right. At least change your address into correct ok!

Hmmm.... Your comment is a bit rude. But oh well...
