We eat at A&J and get takeout from them all the time. The food is cheap, and pretty good comparing to the other Irvine Chinese restaurant.
芽菜海帶 Seaweed & Bean Sprout in Garlic Vinegar Sauce ($1.95)
Seaweed & Bean Sprout is my favorite small dish/appetizer from A&J. The garlic vinegar sauce is slightly sweet, slightly sour, and slightly spicy.
紅燒各半麵 Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup (Szechuan Style) ($6.95)
Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is the must get item at A&J. Personally I like tendon more than the beef. Remember to ask for pickled vegetable (酸菜) to add to your beef noodle soup.
酸辣麵 Noodle in Hot and Sour Sauce ($4.75)
I wanted to try something new and picked Noodle in Hot and Sour Sauce. When I saw the noodle, I went "huh? There's nothing in the noodle?" I was expecting maybe some vegetable or some ground meat or something. Nope. It was just like it's name, plain noodle in hot and sour sauce. The sauce was tasty. It wasn't that sour, and it wasn't that spicy, but just tasty. I just wished they would add at least some vegetable in the noodle. $5 for noodle in some sauce is actually too pricey in my opinion.
We also got a pan fried beef bun and a vegetable bun. Both were great. Dr. P like the juicy beef bun, and I like the lighter vegetable bun.
Cheap and satisfying dinner. We like A&J.

I just notice that they charge 25 cents for the pickle vegetable, too!!
ReplyDeleteThat is not right!
Yup, they charge extra for the pickle vegetable.
I don't think that's right, either. Pickle vegetable should come with beef noodle soup.
Now Chinese restaurants charge for everything.... like rice.
I even heard that some 3 item combo Chinese fast food places do "split" charge.
I have tried A& J in Arcadia, however, I only like their clear beef noodle soup. My boyfriend is a big fan of beef noddle soup, but he does not like beef noodle soup from A & J.
ReplyDeleteI've never try their clear beef noodle soup.
I'll give it a try next time. I thought their beef noodle soup was ok good.
But in Irvine, that is the best we can find.
I still like Beef Noodle King in Alhambra the best.
