[Irvine] [Dessert] Mochilato

I took mom and sister to Shabu Shabu Bar for dinner.  Didn't take pictures because I wrote about it before.  Shabu Shabu Bar is my favorite shabu shabu restaurant, but mom and sister thought it was just a typical shabu shabu restaurant.  They also thought this was something they could easily make at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  Hmmm.... next time they come visit, I'll take them to a more unique restaurant.  Oh well.  After dinner, I asked them if they would like to go to Yogurtland for dessert, or try this shaved ice place called Mochilato.  We all agreed that we want to try something new.

The front part of the store is the seating area.  We walked to the back of the store to place our order.

Mochilato Style Shaved Ice (Junior) ($7.99)

Mochilato's shaved ice is expensive.  The smallest size is $8.  The biggest one is $20.  They also have shaved ice combo, which comes with mochi ice cream.  We decided to get a Jr. size shaved ice combo with 2 mochi ice cream to share.  The combo was $10.  They have a few different style of shaved ice.  There's Japanese style (with green tea syrup and red bean), Italian style (with fruit), barista style (with coffee syrup), and Mochilato style (mix of Japanese and Italian way).  We got the Mochilato style.  There were banana.....

kiwi, strawberry, red bean, and 7 pieces of mochi on the shaved ice.  7 pieces of mochi?  How stingy!  There is also a scoop of vanilla ice cream under the shaved ice.  We didn't like the shaved ice at all.  It was supposed to be green tea syrup on the shaved ice, but it had absolutely no green tea taste to it.  It just tasted like really sweet sugar syrup with green food coloring.  We just ate the fruit, mochi, ice cream, and left the sugary ice with food coloring in the bowl.

Mochi Ice Cream (Almond / Plum)

The two mochi ice cream we got were almond and plum.  Both were horrible.  It tasted very artificial.  And we got that artificial flavor lingering in our mouth afterward.  Gross!

What a waste of money!  Big disappointment!!  This place is way overpriced, and totally not worth it.  The picture looks so much better than how it actually tasted like.  Yogurtland is much much better!  Will never come back again.

  1. Boy the photos sure make them look delicious!

I guess it proves the saying "Can't judge a book by its cover".

I saw the photos on Yelp and thought it looked so good, too.
What a disappointment! $10 of sugar coloring water ice....

  2. that's too bad. I like their mochi ice cream (chocolate, coffee, peach, haznut are good). Their gree tea ice cream is pretty good too. It's over price though.

We thought the mochi ice cream from supermarket is better than theirs.
The plum had little pieces of plum in it. But it just had that artificial smell and taste to it.

Or maybe next time when your mom and your sister come to visit, you could just ask them to easily make you shabu shabu at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com ; )

haha I know! Dr. P and I are so addicted to shabu shabu now.
We have shabu shabu like once a week. We really need to get a little stove and pot at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.
I think it'll be much cheaper if we make it at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.
