[San Gabriel] [Hot Pot] Lu Gi Restaurant

Lu Gi Restaurant
盧記麻辣鍋
539 W Valley Blvd.
San Gabriel, CA 91776
(626) 965-9881

We haven't had Taiwanese spicy hot pot for the longest, and I really really really really miss it. We were in the San Gabriel area one afternoon. It was like 3pm, and I thought of spicy hot pot. I mentioned it to Dr. P about how I miss spicy hot pot, and he just said "let's go then." What a perfect husband! haha....

鴛鴦鍋底 Spicy Hot Pot Soup Base ($3.50/person)

Ahhhhhh Taiwanese spicy hot pot! We need a Taiwanese spicy hot pot restaurant in OC. Seriously. Can someone open one, please?

There's Dr. P with his dipping sauce. He made it with green onion, cilantro, garlic, shacha sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and soy sauce. My dipping sauce is always made with green onion, cilantro, garlic, vinegar, and sesame oil. By the way, I think Lu Gi changed the sesame oil to just some kind of vegetable oil on the table. It didn't have the sesame flavor at all. I want my sesame oil back!

All the goodies we ordered that day. We actually finished EVERYTHING! That was how much we miss this place.

牛肉 Beef ($4.75)

Lu Gi has 3 different cuts of beef. We always ordered the cheapest cut. It tastes good enough for us.

羊肉 Lamb ($4.75)

I always like lamb just slightly more than beef for some reason.

肥腸 Intestine ($4.50)

Intestine is a must for me for spicy hot pot. I added them all to the spicy side. This doesn't taste so good in the non-spicy side in my opinion.

手打蝦球 Shrimp Balls ($4.95)

The handmade Shrimp Balls was very very "Q" and tasty. Lots of chopped shrimp in it.

蠔菇 Oyster Mushroom ($3.00)

We love how the oyster mushroom absorbs all the flavor from the spicy soup base. So delicious!

茼蒿 Tong Hao ($2.50)

I find cooking Tong Hao in the spicy side is way too spicy for me. The spicy oil always makes me cough. I like to cook this vegetable in the non-spicy soup, then when it's done, dip it in the spicy soup briefly.

白麵 Noodle ($2.00)

Cooked the noodle in the spicy soup at the end. Then eat this with the leftover dipping sauce with tons of green onion, cilantro, and garlic. It's so good that way. If you're still not full by then, the noodle will make you full.

I LOVE TAIWANESE SPICY HOT POT! Once again, can someone please come open a spicy hot pot restaurant in OC, pretty pretty please?

  2. Hi there,
Do you happen to know if this Lu Gi restaurant added MSG? I'm severely allergic to MSG, so my choice of restaurants is so limited.
    Thanks

    I have no idea.
You might want to call them to find out for sure.
