Before going to Anime Expo 2012 today, I stopped by at Yung Ho Restaurant to pick up some Chinese breakfast.


鹹豆漿 Salty Soy Milk

I got Salty Soy Milk and Salty Rice Roll. These two are my favorite Chinese breakfast items. I was quite disappointed at my breakfast though. The salty soy milk's flavor tasted like it was missing something. There wasn't enough green onion, and they've omit the pickled veggies (榨菜). Instead, it was just filled with soggy fried Chinese donut (油條) pieces.

My family used to go to Lu's Garden a lot. That was about 20 years ago. Food was great and price was cheap. A few years ago I went back again. Food was still pretty good, but price went sky high. Since I was in the same plaza getting takeout from Green Zone, I thought I would get takeout for my parents from Lu's Garden as well for memory's sake.


3 Item Combo

It was during lunch special hour. They offered 2-, 3- or 4- item combo. I picked 3 dishes: stewed pork, eggplant, and green veggies. I think it cost around $7. Food tasted pretty good, but portion was small for $7, especially in the SGV area.

Mom just came back from Taiwan. We wanted to take her out to eat, but she caught a cold. So instead of going out, we brought food to her. She has been wanting to try Green Zone for a long time. Green Zone is an Asian fusion restaurant that serves dishes made with organic products. They are most famous for their Hainan chicken rice. Unfortunately, the chicken rice was sold out at 2pm.

Mom loves curry. And she likes Green Zone's Curry Chicken Rice a lot. There were a lot of vegetables in it.

I was seriously craving for Taiwanese intestine thin noodle. When I visited my sister 2 weeks ago, I requested to go to Ay Chung Flour Rice Noodle for lunch.



When we got there, first thing I noticed was there was no sign outside the restaurant. We almost missed it. Something was different inside as well. First this place is now a sit down restaurant, where a waiter will seat you and take your order, instead of ordering at the counter like before.

We went to Shanghai Restaurant for Chinese New Year, and was turned away because we didn't have reservation. This was a restaurant that my parents wanted to try. So for my dad's birthday, we made reservation to make sure we would get a table this time.


醃篤鮮新筍砂鍋 Bamboo Shoot Clay Pot ($17.95)

I didn't like the soup at all. I think they used preserved meat in there. I thought it smelt like.... dog.

We took my mother-in-law to Newport Seafood for her birthday last year. She likes it so much that she requested to go back there again this year for her birthday.

We haven't had Taiwanese spicy hot pot for the longest, and I really really really really miss it. We were in the San Gabriel area one afternoon. It was like 3pm, and I thought of spicy hot pot. I mentioned it to Dr. P about how I miss spicy hot pot, and he just said "let's go then." What a perfect husband! haha....

Dr. P and I hadn't had spicy hot pot for a long time, and we were both craving for it.  We woke up super late and visited Lu Gi on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm.  Nothing beats sleeping in and having spicy hot pot on a Saturday!  Even though it was 3pm, the restaurant was still semi-busy.  There were people eating, and people leaving and more people coming the whole afternoon.


鴛鴦鍋底 Spicy Hot Pot Soup Base ($3.50/person)

Half spicy and half non-spicy soup base.  We cooked most of the food in the spicy side.  But when it got too spicy, then we would have some from the non-spicy side.  I always have a bowl of non-spicy soup at the end of the meal.

We didn't have a satisfying lunch at Chung King so we were still craving for spicy food.  Lu Gi is my favorite Taiwanese style spicy hot pot restaurant.  So off we went.


Spicy Hot Pot ($3.50/person)

Spicy hot pot was devided into two sides.  One side spicy and one side non-spicy.  There were already vegetables and tofu in the soup base.  You can always ask the waitress to add more soup and tofu for free.

這天是早餐吃的晚，所以中午沒吃，到了下午肚子有點餓，但是又覺得好像再過不久就要吃晚餐，那就去買一些中式點心來吃吃吧！


小籠湯包 Small Steam Bun (US$4.25)

雖然名字叫小籠「湯」包，但是其實一點湯汁也沒有，裡面就是大大一塊有很多薑味的肉，不是很喜歡這一道耶！

在San Gabriel的大華超市廣場二樓的這家故鄉嫩豆腐室新開的，這天下午我跟我弟和我妹想吃韓國料理，我妹說他之前跟我媽來這家吃過還不錯，所以我們就決定來這用餐。


沙拉 Salad

點完菜後，服務生先送上一人一小盤酸酸的醬油口味沙拉，這沙拉非常小份，大概三口就吃完了，不過反正這是免費送的，而且來這裡主要也不是吃沙拉，我們就不計較了。

這天跟家人原本是想要吃羊肉爐的，來到這家店，卻發現店名已經改了，而且賣的菜也不太一樣，但是生意好像比以前還要好，等的人很多，凡正既來之則安之，我們也加入了等待的人潮，等了大約三十分鐘後，終於有位置了。

這家店是大陸人開的，標榜的是正宗的湘菜，看了菜單時在是有很多看不懂的菜名，大陸人幫菜取名字一定要這麼另類嗎？他們的菜色多到讓人眼花撩亂，但是幾乎都是辣的，而且不是一般普通辣，而是辣辣辣，不過這對喜歡吃辣的我來說，實在是太過癮了！


臘味合蒸 Steamed Preserved Meat (US$8.98)

爸爸喜歡吃臘肉，所以點了這一道，基本上就是一堆辣肉放在很辣的辣油裡去蒸，因為我不是很喜歡吃臘肉，所以也不是很喜歡這一道菜，不過是真的剌的狠夠味啦！

這是一家中國人開的鐵板燒，應該也開了有十幾年了吧！除了有賣鐵板燒以外，還兼賣麻辣鍋。這天跟弟弟兩個人來吃午餐，我們各點了蝦+魚+牛排的套餐，午餐特價一人為US$13.95，如果是晚餐時間來，點一樣的東西，價錢就要兩倍以上囉！所以還是中午來吃划算一點。


蘑菇清湯 Soup

點完餐後先上了附送的湯，我喝不太出來這是什麼高湯做的，就是清湯灑上蔥花跟油蔥酥，再配上兩片磨菇，很簡單的湯，還蠻好喝的。

Norms Restaurant是一家在南加州有很多分店的連鎖平價西餐店，他們的標語是We Never Close，就是永遠不關門，每天都開二十四小時。這家店的套餐大約US$8~15中間，跟一般西餐店比起來算是很便宜的，而且是完整的套餐，包括湯、麵包、沙拉、主菜和甜點。

這天我是跟媽媽一起來吃，兩個人點了兩份套餐，加上稅跟小費後，只花了US$22.46，算是很划算的喔！我點的是肋排加炸雞排套餐，一份US$9左右，媽媽點的是牛排加雞排加炸蝦套餐，一份US$10左右。

點完餐後很快就上了湯和麵包，今天的湯是牛肉蔬菜湯，湯裡面有很多熬得爛爛的蔬菜，我很喜歡這種口味重的湯，但是媽媽覺得太鹹了一點，附送的麵包是剛剛從烤箱裡烤好的，很燙，超軟超好吃，上面有大蒜口味的奶油，真的好好吃，要不是怕等一下吃不下，我真的可以把那一大根麵包都吃完呢！

在今年初的LA Magazine洛杉磯雜誌中，介紹了洛杉磯最棒的25家餐廳，御珍樓Mission 261就是名列其中的一家，查了資料後，發現這家餐廳可是上遍各大小雜誌呢！既然離我家又蠻近的，決定去試試看。

星期六的早上我跟妹妹一起去飲茶，這家餐廳從外面看起來超大的，進了大門後，我們被帶位到右側的某一個廳，我估計這餐廳應該有個十來個廳吧！光是這個廳就有個五十來桌吧！而且是幾乎客滿喔！看來生意真的是很好。

服務生問了我們要喝什麼茶後，就上了菜單，這裏的點心是用點的，而不是有車子推來那種，我個人是比較偏好有車子那種啦！因為可以看到食物，我們在點單上勾選完要的東西後，點心就一一上桌了。


山竹牛肉球 Steamed Minced Beef Balls (US$1.98)

來介紹那天我們吃的東西吧！先從鹹點開始說。第一道是山竹牛肉球，牛肉球蒸的很嫩，裡面有咬起來脆脆的東西，我想是荸耆吧！味道算是很不錯！這是最便宜的一道。

只要問問住在洛杉磯的華人，大家都知道小美，想要吃台灣的小吃，還是自助餐，到小美就買的到，刨冰，珍珠奶茶，西瓜汁也是都有啦！而且是到處都有分店的喔！


排骨飯 Pork Chop Rice (US$4.28)

美國的便當跟台灣還蠻不一樣的，份量大概是台灣的兩倍，我一個人只吃的下三分之ㄧ個，價錢大概是台灣的三倍，這樣一個排骨便當要美金4.28元。配料方面，台灣的便當會附一些青菜(我記得通常是炒高麗菜)，豆乾啊什麼的，有的還會加顆滷蛋，這裡的便當就比較陽春，通常都是一個滷蛋，一塊油豆腐，有時加的是酸菜，有時加的是泡菜，大概就是這樣囉！不過排骨真的很大塊，小美會幫你剁成小小塊的，再加上裝的滿滿的滷肉飯，一個便當夠餵三個人的了。
