[Irvine] [Chinese] Chong Qing Mei Wei Szechwan Restaurant

Chong Qing Mei Wei Szechwan Restaurant
重慶美味川菜

Irvine, CA 92618

It was the night before I had my wisdom teeth extraction appointment. I knew I probably wouldn't be able to eat normally for a while. So what was the one meal I want to eat before the next two weeks of pudding and soup diet? Spicy Chinese food, of course!

風味冷菜 Cold Appetizer ($5.50)

We got our usual spicy beef, kidney, and green veggie cold appetizer. Everything was good. But we noticed portion has became smaller and smaller, especially when the restaurant is busy.

水煮牛魚 Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce ($10.99)

The always good Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce.

五更腸旺 Braised Pig Intestine & Pig Blood ($8.99)

Last time we had Braised Pig Intestine & Pig Blood, it was really good. But this time it wasn't. The intestine had an "intestine" smell and taste. If intestine is fresh and cleaned well, it shouldn't smell and taste that way. Then there was barely any pig blood. This dish was way better last time.

魚香茄子 Eggplant w/ Garlic Sauce ($7.99)

Eggplant w/ Garlic Sauce was tasty, but a bit oily. I think eggplant naturally soaks up a lot of oil when cooked. I like the slightly sweet garlic sauce with my rice.

Gosh! I just realized we went to Chong Qing EVERY WEEK in April! This is my 13th post about Chong Qing, and there were quite a few times I didn't even write about it. We really go there a lot!

  1. It really bothers me when portions aren't consistent. :(
One time we went there really late, and they sold out a lot of the appetizers.
Maybe they only make one big batch a day. So when they are really busy, they give people less?

  2. I almost always eat Chinese food during lunchtime hours (its much cheaper than for dinner) and I have noticed that lots of places have been cutting down on portions that they used to serve (some have stopped including an egg roll). It must be because of the economy.

    Yup, I noticed that too.
Either price goes up, or portion goes down.
The worst one is the one that raise the price AND cut down portion.
    Too bad....
