I had a $50 Maggiano's gift card that I exchanged with my credit card points. I also had a coupon from email for buy one entree during lunch time, get one free Classic Pasta to take home. I made reservation through Open Table for a Sunday lunch for two.

Maggiano's always packed for dinner. I thought they would be busy on Sunday for lunch as well, but they weren't. Maybe most people come here for dinner after shopping at South Coast Plaza?

Bread

Soft ciabatta bread was served. I made our dipping sauce with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pepper, and parmesan cheese. I ate way too much bread.

Steamed Mussels Diavolo ($9.95)
Prince Edward Island Mussels tossed with our diavolo sauce, served with a toasted baguette

For appetizer, we ordered Steamed Mussels Diavolo. The mussels were cooked perfectly. The slightly spicy tomato sauce was so good, especially with bread.

Margherita Flatbread ($6.50)
Grape tomatoes, four-cheese blend, fresh mozzarella and basil

We had a $50 budget, so we were deciding to either get a flatbread or dessert. Flatbread won! Margherita Flatbread was simple yet very good. The thin crust was cirspy at the edges, but still soft in the middle. I couldn't get enough of the melted four cheese. Dr. P loved the flatbread in the restaurant. He also loved snacking on the leftover that night.

Braised Beef Cannelloni ($15.50)
Braised short ribs, Asiago cheese and balsamic cream sauce

Dr. P ordered Braised Beef Cannelloni. Braised short ribs with pasta sounded good. It was an excellent choice. The short ribs were soooooo tender. There were carrot and onion mixed with the meat inside the pasta. The vegetable was slightly cooked and still had a bite to it. I love the crunchy texture of the vegetable mixing with the tender meat. The caramelized onion tasted slightly sweet, and it was in perfect balance with the savory meat. The balsamic cream sauce was rich and addictive. Portion seemed small at first glance, but the two of us only finished half. It was a rich dish so you get full pretty easily. We both loved this dish. With the coupon, we will get a free pasta for to-go with this dish.

Spaghetti, Meatball ($12.95)
Spaghetti topped with a handmade meatball and served in our marinara or meat sauce

I ordered a simple Spaghetti with Meatball because I was in the mood for spaghetti. Not too many places can cook their pasta right in my opinion. I hate overcooked mushy spaghetti. I like my spaghetti al dante, and Maggiano's did just that. The meat sauce was simply delicious. The meatball was soft and tasted really good. It tasted like they had an Italian grandma cooking in their kitchen. With this Classic Pasta, I can also take home another Classic Pasta. No coupon needed. Two pastas for $12.95 is a good deal!

With tons of leftover, and two more pasta to take home, the total was only $50. We had enough food for the next two days!

Taylor Street Baked Ziti ($12.95 FREE)
Italian sausage, pomodoro sauce and ziti topped with a layer of melted Provolone and Parmesan

Taylor Street Baked Ziti was one of the to-go pasta I got. The pasta was refrigerated and "almost" cooked. Everything was cooked except the cheese. It also came with heating instruction, and was packed in microwavable container for convenience. It was very thoughtful of them to do it this way I thought. Taylor Street Baked Ziti was tasty with Italian sausage. And melted cheese on top of pasta is always delicious.

Eggplant Parmesan ($12.95 FREE)
Sliced eggplant, breaded and fried, layered with Provolone cheese and marinara sauce

Eggplant Parmesan also came with "uncooked" cheese on top. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the finished product with yummy melted cheese on top. I LOVE this Eggplant Parmesan. Layers and layers of eggplant topped with super yummy melted cheese. The spaghetti with marinara sauce was also perfect.

It was one three great meals at Maggiano's. Really good food and excellent value! Since I got the gift card from my credit card company for free, this entire meal is FREE! Woohoo~~~~ How can you not love that?
