After our "appetizer" wine dinner at Campanile, we still felt a bit hungry.  Then Kogi BBQ crossed my mind.  I have been wanting to try the hottest new thing in LA, Korean taco.  But we didn't want to wait in line for hours at their taco truck location.  So we headed to Alibi Room for some drinks and Korean taco.

We got there around 10pm.  Found street parking right across the street.  There was nobody outside on the street.  This place was almost unnoticeable.

But the bar was completely full inside.  It was so full that we had to squeeze through crowds of people to get to the bar area.  It was so crowded that we decided to get food to-go, but was told they couldn't do to-go that night because they were already too busy.  No problem.  We spotted two people leaving the bar and snatched the seats right after they lift their butts.

Acai Margarita ($10.00)
Chinaco blanco tequila with cointreau, freshlime and acai puree served on the rocks with salt

We sipped on cocktails while waiting for our Kogi's.  Dr. P got an Acai Margarita.  This drink was strong!  But very tasty.

Lychee Cooler ($9.00)
Kai lychee vodka with lychee puree and soda water served on the rocks

I got a Lychee Cooler.  It didn't really taste like alcohol, but more like lychee juice.  That's exactly how I like my alcohol.  But I definitely felt the effect afterward.

Korean Spiced Fries ($5.00)

After about 30 minutes wait, food finally came out.  Korean Spiced Fries was just simple seasoned fries with Korean chili sauce + mayo dip.  It was good, especially good with drinks!  But the fries came out.... cold.  I just don't get it.  If we get the fries right after we ordered and it was cold, I could understand how they probably prepared a whole bunch of them already.  But after such a long wait and it still came out cold???  Hmmmm....  Oh well, at least it was still good.

Kimchi Sesame Quesadilla ($7.00)
with red pepper sour cream

Kimchi Sesame Quesadilla was oh so good.  This dish was on the heavier side, with the strong flavor of kimchi with tons of melted cheese, spicy red pepper sour cream sauce on top, and more nacho cheese dip.  I love the crunchy and spicy chopped kimchi mixed with gooey cheese.  I want to try this at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com!  We only ate half, and I had the leftover for breakfast the next morning.  It was just delicious!

Kogi Three Taco Combo ($7.00)
choice of any three - short rib, BBQ chicken, spicy pork or tofu

I think EVERYONE at the bar got this, Kogi Three Taco Combo.  We picked short rib, BBQ chicken, and spicy pork.  These tacos tasted a lot more Mexican than Korean... not what I expected.  I actually thought it would be the other way around.  The meat was chopped into small pieces, topped with lots of lettuce, wrapped in corn tortilla.  Dr. P really liked the short rib one.  My favorite was the spicy pork.  It was good, but maybe I was expecting too much, it just didn't wow me though.

Hite Beer ($7.00)
larger, Korea, 21.6 oz

We finished our cocktails, and saw so many non-Asian guys ordering the Korean beer, Hite.  It was the bigger size bottle.  All those guys were drinking straight from the bottle!  It was just a funny scene.  Dr. P and I drank it the "proper" way, pouring into glasses and shared the bottle.  haha....

When we left around 11:30pm, there was a long long line outside the door.  We were glad we got there earlier.

Alibi Room is a lively bar.  The bartender was really nice and made really good drinks.  EVERYONE was there to eat.  Not one person didn't order some Kogi dishes.  This is not a bar for "hooking up".  But if you want to hook up with some good food and drinks, check out Alibi Room!

  3. i've had the burritos from the kogi truck before since they park right by the apartments by ucla. i think i had too strong of expectations, bc it was just okay. expensive too. and now they charge tax(that isn't even the correct amount)

I thought I was expecting too much for their taco.
Well, I'll give their burrito a try next time and see if it's better than the taco.

  4. I like the fries better than the tacos. It's not bad but I feel kinda overpraised. It's not worth waiting that long for the food and standing in line.

After trying it, I don't think I'll go wait in line for it.
But I like Alibi Room. They have pretty good drinks.
