After our shopping frenzy at the outlet, we were exhausted and hungry.  What do you eat when you are exhausted and hungry?  Buffet, of course!  We headed to Morongo Casino (where morons go haha....) for some casino style buffet dinner.

It was about 8:30pm and the buffet line was LONG!  On Saturday night they have prime rib dinner for $18.95 per person.  We waited in line for about 30 minutes.  Dr. P was really hungry and started acting like a dork.  haha....

We headed straight to the buffet right after we got seated.  Dr. P's first plate had chicken tortilla soup, caesar salad, and antipesto.

I got some salad and cold dishes.  I have to say, everything was great.  Actually a lot better than I expected.

Prime rib time!  Dr. P got a thick slice of prime rib and some mashed potatoes.  The person who was cutting the meat didn't ask us how do we want our meat.  This piece was a well-done one.  The outer layer was fine, but the center cut was a bit dry and hard to chew.  Dr. P didn't like it and left most of it on the plate.

My piece was also well done.  But it was thinner so more edible.  I also got a few different pastas.  All were really good.  Dr. P liked the spicy sausage one a lot.

Dr. P went back to the prime rib station and got another piece.  This time he asked for medium.  But this piece was more like a medium rare.  When he cut into the meat, the whole plate was bloody.  It was a bit too rare for our taste.

3rd attempt.  We went back to the station again, told the guy this time it was too bloody.  He offered to grill the prime rib for us.  The result was PERFECT!  It was just cooked and still pink in the center.  This piece was so tender and juicy.  Big big difference than our first well-done piece.  We also got a piece of BBQ pork rib.  This rib was SOOOOOO delicious!  I think it was my favorite item of the night!

I got a big plate of Asian food and fish.  The orange chicken was so good and Dr. P couldn't stop eating it.

Mahi mahi was a bit dry.  But the tilapia was really good.

I also got a bowl of spicy and sour soup to go with the Asian food.  It was horrible.  It wasn't exactly spicy and sour, more like sweet and gross.  DO NOT get this soup!

Dr. P just loved the cocktail shrimp.  And I helped him (without him asking for help though) finished them all.

Dessert time!  Tiramisu, not so good.  Doesn't have any rum taste and very very soggy.

Cheesecake was alright.  Just your plain standard cheesecake.

Some kind of fruit cake.  There were some cheeries and pineapple on top.  Just so-so.

And of course, ice cream!  Dr. P made it kinda ugly, but it was still yummy!  haha....

The food at Potrero Canyon Buffet was surprisingly good.  Of course it wasn't as grand as Las Vegas buffet.  But we were happy with the selection and the service.  We left happy and super full.  I am planning to take my mom to the outlet to shop and here for dinner next time.  She can have all the prime rib (her favorite food) all she wants!

  2. Great recap!

I was there a few weeks ago, too. I was also surprised at the food. Of course not at good as Vegas buffets, but pretty decent, and relatively close. Great after a day of shopping. :)

I went once a long long time ago. I didn't remember the food was that good.
They really improved a lot I think.

  3. Fantastic looking food :). I went here last year and the food choices were a bit different compared to yours. Were you able to make your own stir fry (you pick ingredients and then the chef cooks it)? I remember doing it last year- it was very good! For that dish alone for lunch it was a better deal compared to the next door Panda Express.

I so wanted to make my own stir-fry.
But I was too full. That's ok. There's always next time....
