Dr. P was at work, and called me around lunch time to ask me if I would like to have a lunch date with him at Whole Foods Market.  Of course!  Dr. P really really really likes the noodle soup at Whole Foods.

We ordered our noodle soup at the Asian food counter, paid, and found a seat at the little dining area.  I love the fresh sunflowers on the table.

Spicy Chicken Hunan Noodle ($6.60)
Spicy hunan noodles, chicken, napa cabbage, bean sprouts, green onion, bok choy, straw mushrooms, cilantro, lemon grass, lemon juice, and chicken broth.

Dr. P ordered his usual Spicy CHicken Hunan Noodle.  The chicken was grilled, and had that nice smokey flavor to it.  I could taste the lemon grass in the broth.  It was sour and spicy, very tasty!

Shrimp Thai Basil Noodle ($7.30)
Thai basil noodles, shrimp, napa cabbage, bean sprouts, green onion, bok choy, straw mushrooms, cilantro, lemon grass, lemon juice, and chicken broth.

I ordered Shrimp Thai Basil Noodle.  The lady who took the ordered told me this was their most popular noodle.  The broth tasted similar to Dr. P's, but without the spiciness.  At first I thought, hey this didn't taste Thai, and there was no basil in it.  Why did they call this Thai Basil Noodle?  Then I noticed the rice noodle had a green tint to it.  I think they added Thai basil to the noodle when they made it.  But the noodle tasted just like any other noodle.  I couldn't really taste the basil flavor.  The shrimp was really fresh.  It was good, but we both thought Hunan Spicy Chicken Noodle was better.

We saw some other people eating tacos, and those tacos sure look good.  They have $1 Taco Tuesday special.  We should go try some tacos!

  1. I saw your review and ordered the Spicy Chicken Hunan Noodle in the Pasadena Arroyo store, but I have to say I was pretty disappointed in it... I think they added cumin to it, and it was with rice vermicelli and not noodles. Where in Hunan do they use cumin? Anyway it tasted like an experiment :-( Maybe it's just the store/cook that day.

Really? The noodle in Irvine does not have cumin in it.
The noodle is rice vermicelli which looks pinkish. I think the color came from the hot chili pepper.
Because when I ordered Thai basil noodle, the noodle was greenish.
