After dinner, we went on our quest to search for dessert. At first we wanted shaved ice. We went across the street to that Ranch 99 plaza. There is a Taiwanese restaurant called Class 302 that serves shaved ice. But the wait for a seat is 20 minutes. So we decided to go to Diamond Plaza's Ten Ren's Tea Time. Even the wait there was 20 minutes. Seemed like every place was packed on Saturday night. Finally we found an empty shop, Genki Living.
I've been to Genki Living in Arcadia a few times and like the dessert a lot. They serve Japanese (or more Taiwanese?) style crepe.
It's a really small place, but the decoration is so cute. It makes you feel like you're sitting on the street. I guess they did that because those cone shape crepe is supposed to be "street food".
Red Bean and Green Tea Ice Cream Crepe ($5.50)
Dr. P and I shared Red Bean and Green Tea Ice Cream Crepe. The crepe was crispy and yummy. I like the dessert crepe, but for some reason, I always think savory crepe taste better than dessert crepe. Jen and her hubby shared a strawberry and custard crepe. She loves custard!
Ham and Corn Taiyaki ($1.65)
We also got a Ham and Corn Taiyaki. Taiyaki is Japanese style waffle in fish shape. It tasted a lot like Taiwanese style "car wheel cake" (車輪餅).
I can never get enough sweet corn. Ham + corn is such a good combination. Jen ended up getting a custard taiyaki and a ham + cheese taiyaki after seeing ours.
Jen's hubby wasn't too interested in dessert, but more interested in the car magazines in the store. Then we saw this ad.... very... uh... explicit ad. It sure gets people's attention though. haha....
By the time we finished, every seats in the store was filled. The line to order was out the door. Phewwww I was so glad we got there right before the crowd.
After googling, I found out there used to be a Genki Living in Irvine. Why did it close down? People in Orange County doesn't like Taiwanese style crepe? Why why why? I wish there is still one in Irvine.

The one in Irvine closed about a year ago. It was in the plaza on Jeffrey where Sushilicious is now. It was decorated like a Japanese subway station, very cute. Unfortunately, it was always empty. It should have been a good location right across the street from IVC, I don't know why it never caught on. They should open one in Diamond Jamboree.
ReplyDeleteThat one in Rowland Heights was crazy busy on Saturday night.
Lots of "young lovers" sharing dessert crepes. haha....
Ooo...You need to go try Class 302 Eileen...
ReplyDeletethey have Shaved Snow just like Taiwan <3 <3 can't miss it!!
I really want to try it!
Hopefully next time I'm in that area again I'll get a chance.
The one in Irvine wasn't as good as the one in RH.
ReplyDeleteI remember one time I ordered apple milk tea and they put apple juice in it instead of using fresh apple. Crepe I ordered wasn't crispy but soft and moist. To make it even worse, they put the crepe in a regular bento box. lol It was a horrible store!
Really? In bento box and moist crepe? That sounds horrible.
Hmmmm.... that's too bad.
That ad got my attention for sure lol...
ReplyDeleteThe red bean and green tea ice cream crepe is awesome. I love it.
haha I guess that's a very male friendly ad.
