My friend Jennifer invited us to go to The Boiling Crab for dinner last night.  Our friends were nice enough to offer to come down to OC Garden Grove location.  But since 4 of them all live up at SGV, it would make more sense if we drive up to meet them.  We decided to try the newest Rowland Heights location.

This place used to be a Taiwanese restaurant called Kanpai.  Now the inside looks completely different.  We were supposed to meet at 5:30pm for an early dinner to avoid the long wait.  There was no wait for seats when we arrived.  But we ended up waiting for our friends because they can't seat us until the entire party is there.  Dr. P and I got there on time.  Jennifer and hubby got there 15 minutes later.  Then Sharon and her man, who live right down the street in Rowland Heights, came 1 hour and 10 minutes later.... >_<  Ahhhhh.....  Yeah my girlfriends are ALWAYS late, REALLY late.

By the time we sat down, it was almost 7pm.  I was starving!  Time to eat!!  The men got a round of Corona.  Beer is super cheap here.  $2 for domestic beer, and $3 for imported beer.  Girls got soda and iced tea with unlimited refills.

Oyster ($13.99/12)

A dozen oyster to start the meal.  The oyster was super fresh.  No aftertaste at all.  Oyster is so good with horseradish and spicy sauce.

Cajun Fries ($2.99)

Boiling Crab has the best Cajun Fries!  I just couldn't stop eating it.

Cajun Hot Wings ($6.99/10)

Their Cajun Hot Wings are also always good.  I only had one piece.  I really wanted more, but thought I should leave room for the 8 pounds of seafood we ordered.

The Whole Sha-Bang Shrimp ($8.99/lb) / Clams ($9.99/lb x 2) / Crawfish ($7.99/lb x 5) / Corn on the Cob ($0.75/each x 4)

Yes yes yes!  I have been craving for The Whole Sha-Bang seafood for days!  We ordered 1 pound of shrimp, 2 pounds of clams, and 5 pounds of crawfish to share.  Oh and some sweet corn, too.  The corn was sooooooooo good with the spicy garlicky sauce.

So everyone loves crawfish, except me.  I don't know....  I felt that it was so much work for so little meat.  Personally I like shrimp a lot more.  Since nobody was really eating the shrimp, I had that 1 pound bag almost all for myself.  Man I was full!  We ordered everything medium spicy, and our lips were burning.  Crazy Jennifer ordered 2 pounds of crawfish EXTRA spicy for herself.  She said even her fingers was burning, but she loved it.  It was the first time we tried clams.  The clams were really meaty.  We like it a lot.  Definitely will order again.

It was our first time eating at the actual restaurant.  Before we always just got to-go because the wait was too crazy.  Dr. P and I both agree that the food tasted better and fresher when eating in the restaurant.  No wonder people are willing to wait for 2 hours here.  Now I'm salivating again thinking about the whole sha-bang flavor.  I want to go back again already!

  1. I really want to try The Boiling Crab, but I can't deal with the waiting game! Looks fantastic, though. :P

You gotta try it when you get a chance.
Be careful though. It's quite addicting once you try it.

  2. Thank you! Now I don't have to drive all the way to Alhambra for the crabs...(I live near Ontario..)

Yeah, Rowland Heights is much closer to you.
I also heard there's a new location in Alhambra on Main street.
My friend said that one is bigger and less crowded than the one on Valley.

  5. I love their food, but hate wasting my time there! Try the fish and chip next time, Eileen.

    Fish and Chip, Yum!
I know, the wait is always so crazy there.
Good they have to-go option available.
But the food tastes better when eating in restaurant though.

  6. I am dying for the boiling crabs! I wish they have one in east coast. I have tried some "similar" seafood restaurant in east coast. They just made me disappointed even more. I guess east coast is just for the spicy seafood (crying).

If you can figure out how to make their spicy cajun sauce, and open a restaurant in east coast, you will be RICH!
    So start cooking!!!! haha.... ^_^
