[Walnut] [Taiwanese] 布織道 Coffee Break Cafe

I have been coughing for two weeks.  Dr. P took me to my school to see a doctor (and it's free!).  Doctor told me that my cough is caused by allergy.  So now I'm taking Benadryl and Zyrtec.  Hopefully I'll stop coughing soon.  After the visit to the school Health Center, we went across the street for dinner.

Coffee Break has been around for more than 10 years.  I remember coming here way way way back in the days with friends.

冬瓜茶 Winter Melon Tea ($0.99)

I wanted a Winter Melon Tea, but I didn't think I should drink iced drinks with my condition.  So Dr. P ordered a glass and let me try a sip.  I used to drink this tea all the time in Taiwan.

鹽酥雞 Basil & Pepper Fried Chicken ($4.25)

We got the Basil & Pepper Fried Chicken as appetizer.  I didn't like Coffee Break's version at all.  The breading of the chicken wasn't right.  The seasoning was off as well.  It just didn't taste right.

雞排飯 Chicken Steak Rice ($6.00)

I was disappointed about the Fried Chicken, but the Chicken Steak Rice would be the reason I'll keep on coming back here.  The chicken steak was juicy and tender.  The marinated chicken was so good.  Dr. P kept on fighting with me for the chicken.

麻辣牛肉片小火鍋 Spicy Sliced Beef Hot Pot ($8.99)

Dr. P ordered Spicy Sliced Beef Hot Pot.  It was a lot of food for $9.  Beef, egg, cabbage, tofu, fish cake, imitating crab, enoki mushroom, and carrot.  It also came with shacha sauce and a sweet chili sauce for dipping, as well as a bowl of white rice.

The spicy soup base tasted like Szechuan style.  It was pretty spicy, and it also had that numbing effect to the lips.  We both liked the hot pot.

I will definitely be back again, just not for the fried chicken.  I think I wanna try their Taiwanese style sizzling plate next time.

  2. Regarding your cough, I had similar symptoms and one MD gave me pretty much the same diagnosis and a course on Claritin and other allergy medication, but it was not effective and I suffered on and off for several years.

Another MD later gave me a QVAR inhaler (spray for your lungs that you breathe through your mouth) which worked like a charm. Within a few days, my cough went away completely! QVAR is normally for asthma but you can check with your MD to see if it will work for you. Apparently my allergy to our environment was triggering asthmatic reactions.

    Thanks for the info, Seneschal.
I tried to take allergy medicine for the past few day, but it didn't help at all.
I am also taking cough syrup and 3 different kinds of cough drops.
Yesterday I got major digestive problem, and thought all those different medication might have something to do with it.
I stopped taking everything last night. And this morning I actually feel much better.
It's really strange. If my cough doesn't get better, I'll ask my doctor about QVAR, too.
    Thanks again, Seneschal!

  3. How was the beef for the hot pot? they don't look too appealing tho..

It was in small pieces, and not very tender.
I actually enjoyed the vegetable a lot more than the meat.
