[Irvine] [Chinese] Chong Qing Mei Wei Szechwan Restaurant

Chong Qing Mei Wei Szechwan Restaurant
重慶美味川菜

5406 Walnut Ave #C
Irvine, CA 92618
(949) 651-8886

We were both craving for some spicy Chinese food, and decided to check out the sister restaurant of Taste of Asia, Chong Qing Mei Wei.  Chong Qing Mei Wei is closer, but it's a cash only place.  Good thing is that there's a Chase Bank in the same plaza.

We went on Sunday afternoon around 2pm.  Going in the afternoon is probably the only time when this restaurant isn't busy.  They have the exact same menu as Taste of Asia.

風味冷菜 Cold Appetizer ($5.50)

We went up to the Cold Appetizer counter and picked three of them.  They have a lot more selections than the Lake Forest one.  We picked spicy kidney, smoked chicken, and veggie with edamame.  All were really good.

孜然羊肉 Stir Fried Lamb with Cumin ($10.99)

Stir Fried Lamb with Cumin tasted great.  We love the smokey flavor of cumin.  The lamb was soft, but a little bit too soft.  It seemed like they soaked the meat in baking soda for too long?

重慶辣子肥腸 Fried Pig Intestine with Hot Pepper ($9.99)

Fried Pig Intestine with Hot Pepper tasted just like the Pic Intestine in Dried Pot, which I ordered last time, but without the leek.  The intestine was deep fried then sauteed with spicy chili pepper.  It was a bit greasy, but still tasted good.  This dish would be perfect with beer.

水煮兩樣 (牛、魚) Boiled 2 Kinds (Beef & Fish) with Hot Sauce ($10.99)

Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce was our favorite dish.  Big piece of fish with tender beef in a garlic chili spicy sauce.  There were also some cabbages at the bottom.  I can eat two bowls of rice just with this dish alone.

Food at the Irvine location is a bit more spicy than the Lake Forest restaurant.  Also the Irvine one has better cold appetizers.  The only inconvenience is that it's a cash only restaurant.  We had enough leftover to eat for the next 3 days.  Love spicy Chinese food!
