[Monterey Park] [Chinese] 享福閣一百磅 One Hundred Seafood Buffet

One Hundred Seafood Buffet
享福閣一百磅

Yesterday my parents wanted to take me to try this new dumpling restaurant they really like.  When we got to the restaurant, we found out that they are closed on Tuesday.  So dad decided to start driving toward Monterey Park.  We passed by One Hundred Seafood Buffet, and my dad decided to go in to try some Fuchow food.

The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor Hong Kong Supermarket.

If you sit by the window, you get the beautiful view of.... Hong Kong supermarket below.

The restaurant has a small hot pot buffet.  For $13.99/person, you can get all you can eat hot pot.  But we were not interested in hot pot.  We wanted to try some of their specialty Fuchow food.  I have never had Fuchow food before.  Dad said it is very similar to Taiwanese cuisine.  They have a "family meal" deal.  For $19.99, we got to pick 3 dishes and 1 soup.  Sounded good, but....

三混湯 Fish Ball & Dumpling Soup

We started with Fish Ball & Dumpling Soup.  There were two different kinds of dumplings, Fushow Dumpling (肉燕) and Fuchow Wonton (扁肉).  Both dumplings were just alright.  The soup was horrible.  It tasted like water with MSG.

福州魚丸 Fish Ball

Fish Ball was pretty good though. It had stuffed meat in the middle.

五花肉炒芛 Pork with Dried Bamboo Shoots

When the waitress brought the food to our table, we were surprised at how small the plates wer.  It was only a tad bigger than those small plates they give you in Chinese restaurants.  Pork with Dried Bamboo Shoots was alright.  The pork was sliced into thin pieces.  Bamboo tasted soggy and didn't have much taste.

卜糟鴨 Duck with Wine Grain Sauce

Duck with Wine Grain Sauce was very disappointing.  The wine grain sauce tasted good, but the duck we got was all bones.  They only used duck neck and wing tips in this dish.  When we asked the waitress about it, she said their customers all like duck bones more than duck meat.  She said they tried serving duck with meat before, and all they got were complaints from customers.  The customers demanded duck bones, so that's why they serve the dish like this.  This gotta be the biggest BS I've ever heard!  Yeah right, customers demanded to be served bones.  WTH?

酸菜大腸 Intestine with Sour Cabbage

Intestine with Sour Cabbage was the only dish I liked.  The flavor of sour cabbage and intestine matched very well.  But the dish was seriously small.

And they charged $1.00/person for rice.  Will I return to this restaurant?  Hell no!  And I don't recommend anyone to try it!

  1. I heard it from radio once about the AYCT hot pot. once I was in the area so I stopped by and took a peak. it was during the dinner time and the place was empty and they have the to go menu downstairs so i took one and i saw they offered everything and anything you can think of.
when a restaurant is trying to that, nothing will be good, i never actually eat at that place but already decided not to eat here and after your review, hell to never :)-!

But there are still a lot of people eating hot pot.
Maybe the hot pot is better than the dishes. I don't know.

  2. I totally agree with KJ--when restaurants try to have EVERYTHING nothing tends to be very good. Places with small menus often have the best food.

    I agree, too!

  4. That's too bad about this place. I've seen it before but never went in to try it out. Now I know to avoid it.

There are so many good restaurants around the area.
I would definitely go somewhere else next time.
