[Rowland Heights] [Chinese] 福方園 Noodle House

Noodle House
福方園

18219 E Gale Ave #A
Rowland Heights, CA 91748
(626) 839-8806

Noodle House was recommended by our friend Zoe and Mr. E.  Since my dad's favorite type of food is noodle, dumplings, and buns, I decide to take my parents there for lunch.

The restaurant is located near Fullerton and Gale, right of the 60 freeway.

The restaurant is big, and looks brand new.  They have a nice open kitchen that we can see the workers making noodles and buns.  My parents saw the manager, and immediately recognized him.  He used to work at Noodle House in Monterey Park.  He also recognized my parents and came over to say hi.  He said that the owner of the MP's Noodle House sold the place, and moved the restaurant and took his staffs to Rowland Heights because he thought the original place was too small.  This new Noodle House just opened its door two weeks ago.

泡菜 Pickled Cabbage ($1.99)

We started the meal with Pickled Cabbage.  My parents love this dish from the original Noodle House.  The new place's version tasted the same as before.

麻辣肉筋 Simmered Beef with Beef Tendon in Chili Sauce ($5.99)

Simmered Beef with Beef Tendon in Chili Sauce was one of the dish our friends recommended.  The beef was tender, but the tendon was a bit hard.  It was a great appetizer because I got hungrier after eating the spicy beef.

特色香辣板麵 Hot Spicy Beef Noodle Soup ($7.99)

Dad and I ordered Hot Spicy Beef Noodle Soup to share.  After ordering, we saw the kitchen staff making the extra thick noodle for us.  The noodle was thick, and also very long.  Unfortunately, some pieces were undercooked.  But the cooked one tasted chewy.  I like the spicy broth, but dad didn't.  The beef was not tender at all.  We left almost all the beef in the bowl.  They waiter noticed when we paid our bill and asked us about it.  We told him our honest opinion, and he said that the beef was harder because it wasn't braised, but deep fried.  The invented this "deep fried" beef noodle soup for younger customers.  And he suggested my parents to order the regular "braised" beef noodle soup next time for tenderer beef.

羊肉枸杞水餃 Mutton with Medlar Dumpling (10) ($7.99)

When the waiter brought the Mutton with Medlar (a.k.a. gogi berry) Dumpling to our table, he told us the chef accidentally broke one while cooking it in the boiling water.  So later he brought us one single dumpling on a small plate.

I LOVE this dumpling.  The mutton meat was salty and flavorful, and it was mixed with the sweet flavor of gogi berry.  The meat+berry juice inside the dumpling was delicious, too.

三鮮包 Combination Seafood Bun (8) ($8.99)

We always ordered Combination Seafood Bun at MP's Noodle House.  The buns looked exactly the same as before.

Lots of shrimp, lots of sea cucumber, and little pork.  Love it!

Mom and I like Noodle House, but dad didn't like it as much as the original MP one.  He didn't like the beef noodle soup, and thought everything is overpriced now.  Well, the restaurant is bigger, and it has better decoration, I guess they had to raise the price a little to cover that.

炸醬麵 Pork Soybean Pasta Noodle ($6.25)

My sister asked us to bring her some food http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  Mom ordered Pork Soybean Pasta Noodle for her.

I tried a few bites, and thought this tasted better than the beef noodle soup we had earlier.

My parents recently tried JTYH Restaurant, and they said that place is better than Noodle House, and price is about 1/3 cheaper.  They said they'll take me there next time so I can compare the food myself.
