Yeah~~~~  I finally got a bicycle!  After shopping at the bike shop, we went across the street in The Market Place for some food.  The Market Place gotta be the biggest and the most confusing shopping center ever!  After couple wrong turns, going around in couple circles, and a phone call to the restaurant, we finally found Jerry's Wood Fired Dog.  I read good review about this place online.  You can pick your own toppings for a customized hot dog.  We had high expectation, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment.  The food wasn't good, but the service was even worse.

We placed our order at the counter.  Since it was our first time there, we weren't really sure how should we order.  We told the cashier it was our first time, and asked how should we order the food.  Do we order the topping with her?  Or with the kitchen staff?  The cashier wasn't helpful at all.  The first time we asked, she didn't even answer.  We found out that we order the toppings with the kitchen person when we pick up the hot dogs.  So Dr. P picked his sauce first and asked for the hot sauce.  After squeezing the hot sauce on the hot dogs, the girl also squeezed the hot sauce into my eyes!  Yes, MY EYES!  I was standing in front of the counter with Dr. P.  I still don't know how she managed to squeeze the hot sauce bottle across the counter all over my face.  I wiped the hot sauce off my face, but that drop that got into my eyes BURNED!  It was hurting really bad.  I ran to the bathroom to rinse it out.  When I came back, she said, "are you ok?  I'm sorry.  What would you like to have on your hot dog?"  We were going to eat there, but after the incident, we decided to get it to-go.  We just wanted to get out of there as soon as we could.  On our way http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com, Dr. P called the restaurant to complain to the manager.  Instead of apologizing, the manager gave Dr. P a lecture about respecting people.  She said Dr. P shouldn't use that angry tone of voice to speak to her.  Dr. P was so mad that he then hung up on her.

Jerry's Signature Dog ($3.75)
The one with the snap!  All beef dog in natural casing seasoned perfectly!  Jerry's favorite!

When I opened my hot dog at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com, I found out the hot sauce girl had messed up my toppings as well.  She didn't add the lettuce I asked for, but gave me some jalapeno, which I didn't ask for, instead.  I got sauteed mushroom, tomato, cranberry, feta cheese, with Chipotle mayo.  The bun was soggy.  The hot dog was a bit dry.  The hot dog just wasn't that good.

Dr. P also got a Jerry's Signature Dog.  His toppings were sauteed mushroom, sauteed onion, green bell pepper, tomato, and jalapeno.

His hot dog was even drier than mine.  It was all shriveled up, and the casing was really tough to chew.  Dr. P has declared this was the worse hot dog ever!

Jerry's Combo ($3.75)
Add French fries or our famous potato chips and a large drink

We added a fries and drink combo with the hot dog.  Their fries was the only thing I liked.  It was soft, oily, and soggy.  I am a weirdo and like soggy fries.  But I think most people probably wouldn't like it.

This was the most horrible dining experience ever since I moved down to Orange County.  In general, I thought the service in OC is much better than LA's.  But apparently not at Jerry's Wood Fired Dogs.  We will never ever return again!

  1. Aw, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience there. My parents are Chinese immigrants, so we've dealt with people who think they don't need to give us good service just because my parents can't speak English that well. I don't know if this is the case with you or Dr. P, but it is very frustrating to have to deal with. I'm glad you got that out in the open though.

I don't want to think it's a racial thing. It's simply poor service.
But I know what you mean. My parents are also Taiwanese immigrants.
And I heard some discrimination stories from them.

  2. That was terrible. Hope everything is fine with your eye.

I kept on "crying" that night. But my tear did washed out the hot sauce.
It was all better next day.

  3. Worst restaurant we've been to in the OC thus far... maybe even worse than anyplace I've been anywhere... Funny thing, we've actually been having good luck in OC for food until this place. Btw, also wanted to add that the cashier girl also forgot to give me my drink, and the manager and that service girl should be fired... seriously, the manager was horrible, rude, inconsiderate. The girl who squirted the hot sauce really didn't seem to sorry about the incident. I don't even want to call corporate especially after the poor service from the manager there. Really bad situation. I can see why Irvine must have only chain restaurants, since the other chain stores can keep horrible places like this in business. If this was an independent restaurant, they would have closed down a long long time ago. Amazing the business practices nowadays. Stay away, stay far away from this place.

On the bright side, at least I know that if I want a hot-dog, I'd rather drive all the way back to LA and eat at Pinks. I wouldn't even mind the wait there. Gosh I miss Pinks :)

    I miss Pinks, too!

  5. What a bummer! So sorry to hear about your poor experience, I've always had pretty good experience dining there. You know, sometimes Jerry the owner is there helping around.

I bet if Jerry was there that day, both food and service would be so much better.

  7. I have only eaten at the Jerrys Dogs location in La Habra on Beach Blvd in the Walmart Center and the service and attitude has always been good. I am so upset about your experience with their manager and server that I may contact Jerry himself and show him the photos and review of your visit there. By the way, the only reason why I don't go to more upscale hotdog places is because its so hard to beat the Costco jumbo dog + soda for only $1.50!

haha I know what you mean. Costco hot dog + drink is the best!
