We've been wanting to go back to Shinkou Sushi for a long time. Then one day I spotted a $30 for a sushi dinner for two ($62.50 value) Groupon deal for Shinkou Sushi. I think it was meant to be for me to see that so we would visit this great Japanese eatery again! :-P

Look how good this deal was!! For $30, we got:

A shrimp-and-vegetable-tempura appetizer (a $6 value)
A seaweed salad or large green salad (a $4.50 value)
Two miso soups (a $1.50 value each)
Two of the following rolls: Las Vegas, Shinkou, crunchy, spider, or build-your-own (up to a $9.25 value each)
A 10-piece 1.2 sushi combo (a $16 value)
A large beer, valid for any label except Orion (a $5.50 value)
A large and a small sake, or a bottle of house sake for takeout or delivery (a $9 value)

Sapporo ($5.50)

Shinkou sushi is not a big place. We went on a weeknight, and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. At first I thought they were busy because of the Groupon deal. But after looking around a bit, we were the only party there with the Groupon deal. It was great to see their business was great because of their delicious food.

Miso Soup ($1.50)

Green Salad ($4.50)

Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura ($6.00)

Tempura was light and crispy, not oily at all.

Sushi Combo v1.2 (10 pcs of Sushi) ($16.00)
1 of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, white fish, shrimp, octopus, squid, tamago, unagi

Great sushi combo! Fish was really fresh. Big pieces of fish with just the right amount of sushi rice.

Shinkou Roll ($8.95)
shrimp tempura roll topped with salmon, masago and shiso leaf finished
Crunchy Roll ($7.50)
shrimp tempura roll topped with tempura flakes finished with sweet sauce

Shinkou Roll was great. I love the shiso leaf finished on top of the rolls. But comparing to the nigiri sushi, both Dr. P and I prefer the traditional sushi over the rolls.

Miso Black Cod

Miso Black Cod was on the secret menu. Last time we were at Shinkou, the owner/chef told us he was trying to adjust his miso black cod recipe to make it perfect. Dr. P has been thinking about that perfect miso black cod ever since.

And perfect it was! This was one seriously delicious piece of black cod. The fish was super soft and flavorful. I think I could eat 5 pieces of it all by myself. We must order this every time we go to Shinkou. I forgot how much it was exactly, but I just remember I thought it was under priced. Maybe around $8? The only suggestion I want to make is that maybe serve the dish in a regular plate, instead of a bento box with empty compartments.

Just like our visit before, we left happy, full, and very satisfied. Shinkou Sushi, we will definitely be back again very very soon!!
