We've been to Kula Sushi in Irvine a few times. The $2 per plate sushi is good, but the wait is always crazy. We were really excited when we heard about the grand opening of Kula Sushi in Laguna Hills Mall.

We went on a Saturday night. The wait was about 30 minutes. Personaly I like going to revolving sushi restaruant on a busy night. That way we know the sushi is fresh, and it didn't sit on the revolving belt for too long.

But on a busy day like this, they tend to run out of things. They ran out of sea urchin that night. We were sad.

Squid with Shiso Leaves Nigiri ($2.00)

I love the flavor of shiso leaves. Squid sushi just doesn't taste as good without a piece of shiso leaf.

Yellowtail Roll ($2.00)

Albacore Nigiri ($2.00)

Miso Soup ($2.00)

Their miso soup is really good. I think the tofu was homemade.

Tuna Yukke Gunkai Maki ($2.00)
Tuna, BBQ Sauce, Poched Egg, Chives

These Gunkai Maki with egg is my favorite! I can easily eat 10 of these by myself!!

Raw Shrimp Nigiri ($2.00)

Ikura (Salmon Roe) Gunkai Maki ($2.00)

Yellowtail Nigiri ($2.00)

Spanish Mackerel Nigiri ($2.00)

Spanish Mackerel sushi was very very good.

Salmon Nigiri ($2.00)

Seaweed Salad ($2.00)

Scallop Nigiri ($2.00)

Yellowtail Belly Nigiri ($2.00)

The lady who sat next to us asked if we had a coupon. What coupon? She handed us a 20% off coupon and said she had two. Nice!

Thanks to the nice lady. She saved us almost $10! We like this Kula Sushi a bit more than Irvine's. Food was fresh and delicious. Oh we loved their fresh wasabi, too. Definitely will be back again soon.

  1. Love your photos! The fish looks so fresh compared to Irvine (Irvine location is like a 5 min drive for us though). Thank you, and Honeybuns and I will try this location:-)

We went back again last night.
No wait. Everything was fresh and delicious... except the uni.
Dr. P said the uni had a fishy taste.
But other than that, it was great.
We like this location so much better than Irvine's.

  2. They also opened one at little Tokyo, I didn't feel the sushi was that fresh.

There are so many good sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
Down here in OC, especially south OC, there's no competition.
I think they have to do an even better job in Little Tokyo.
Too bad it didn't live up to people's expectation.

We visited the new location twice already.
Like it soooo much better than Irvine's.
This location is not as crazy as Irvine's.
