[Mission Viejo] [Shabu Shabu] Shabu

Shabu
28715 Los Alisos Blvd
Mission Viejo, CA 92692
(949) 588-3225

We saw Shabu when we went to Simply Fondue in the same plaza. It was a cold day. We decided to give this place a try.

Half of the seats in the restaurant was already reserved. Luckily we got there early enough to grab to seats. They turned so many people away that night.

Ponzu / Goma

The owner, Hot Mama, introduced herself to us. She told us everything in her restaurant is made by her. The friendly Japanese waitress asked if we would like garlic, green onion, daikon, and spicy chili in our sauces. Then she made it for us. I love their ponzu sauce.

Hot Mama's Secret Sauce

The waitress then brought us Hot Mama's Secret Sauce. This spicy sauce was delicious with rice.

Vegetable Plate

Love the fresh and crisp cabbage.

Beef ($14.90)

Dr. P ordered beef. Hot Mama taught us how to properly eat shabu shabu with two "swish swish".

Pork/Beef Combination ($16.90)

I got pork/beef combo. The beef was much better than the pork.

Kimchi

When Hot Mama found out Dr. P is part Korean, she gave us her home-made kimchi for special treat.

Udon Noodle ($1.00)

For an extra dollar, Hot Mama will personally make the udon noodle for you. I don't know what she did, but this noodle soup broth was  way too good!

We really enjoyed the food and the experience at Shabu. It was fun chatting with super outgoing and friendly Hot Mama (she told us normally she's Hot Mama, but that night she was Crazy Mama. lol!). We will definitely be back to see Hot Mama again!
