Every time we go to South Coast Plaza to shop, we want to stop by at Z'Tejas for their happy hour now. The food we had last time was great. This time I was ready for my 2 glasses of wine then go shopping afterward.

House White Wine ($3.00) / 6th St Margarita ($6.50)

We started with some alcohols. I had a glass of their house white, and Dr. P had a margarita. Their house white was great, and the price was great as well. I added another house red a little later. I think I like their white a bit more.

Corn Bread

Delicious freshly baked hot corn bread. I want to learn how to make this at home!

Grilled Shrimp & Guacamole Tostada Bites ($6.00)
Tostada rounds topped with fresh hand-made guacamole, a dash of chipotle and cilantro pesto marinated grilled shrimp.

Grilled Shrimp & Guacamole Tostada Bites was our favorite dish from last visit. We were so looking forward to eat this again. We were really excited. Each of us grabbed one and took a big bite. Then we looked at each other and said, "Hmmm... this wasn't as good as last time." Why? Because everything was cold. The shrimp was cold, and tasted like it had been sitting there for a while. They did brought all the dishes out at the same time. Maybe the timing of preparing each dish was off?

Pork Nachos ($5.00)

Pork Nachos had tender shredded pork with black beans and tons of melted cheese sitting on top of giant crispy tortilla chips. They were generous with the amount of guacamole, too. We enjoyed the nachos.

Leo's Street Tacos ($6.00)
Seared beef tenderloin, diced cucumbers, topped with avocado and cotija cheese and a drizzle of chipotle cream sauce.

Dr. P liked Leo's Street Tacos a lot. The beef tenderloin inside the taco was seasoned and cooked very well. I liked the chipotle cream sauce and the addition of a fresh slice of avocado. The tomatillo sauce was delicious.

Spinach and Mushroom Quesadilla ($4.00)

Spinach and Mushroom Quesadilla had a lot a lot a lot a lot of veggies inside. Spinach, mushroom, onion, and red bell pepper with melted cheese. It was my favorite dish of the night. So yummy. I don't mind being a vegetarian if I can eat this everyday.

Although the shrimp tosdata was a disappointment, we enjoyed everything else. Great happy hour with great price. We will definitely be back again.

  1. Great post! I tried their Happy Hour two months ago and was hooked! The shrimp appetizer was my favorite as well. Love it that you tried so many appetizers which I didn't try so now I know what to order next time.

Dr. P likes to stick with dishes he likes.
I like to try new things.
So when we go out to eat, we'd order 1 or 2 dishes we've had before,
and 1 or 2 new dishes.
Next time we go back, we'll try more new appetizers.
Maybe we'll run into you someday? :-)
