I bought a Groupon deal for sushi dinner for two at Yama Sushi & Grill. For $35, the sushi dinner for two includes one Samurai and one tataki maki roll, an 18-piece sashimi sampler for two, and one bottle of house sake ($75.75 total value). Sounds like a pretty good deal.

When we got to the restaurant, we realized we've been to this plaza before. We went to Tortilla Flats for lunch, and really enjoyed the beautiful lake view. We were hoping to have the same lake view at Yama Sushi.

And we did! We requested to sit on the patio, and so did everyone else. Why would you want to sit inside when you can have a view like this outside?

Cold House Sake ($20.00)

It was a hot summer night so we chose the cold house sake. The sake was sweet and smooth.

18-piece Sashimi Sampler for Two ($29.85)

The 18 piece sashimi sampler was beautiful, and delicious! We had salmon, albacore, tuna, seared tuna, yellowtail, and an unknown white fatty fish which turned out to be my favorite (it was so soft and just melt in your mouth). I love how every type of fish came with an accompanied vegetables (sitting under the fish). We had the sashimi with the veggies, and it was perfectly paired. The cut was generous, and fish was very fresh. We enjoyed the sashimi tremendously.

Tataki Roll ($12.95)
Spicy tuna roll topped with seared tuna, white onion, cilantro & tataki sauce.

Tataki Roll was very very good. Their spicy tuna roll was pretty spicy. The combination of sliced red onion, fried onion strips, and cilantro was perfect. Tataki sauce, which tasted like ponzu sauce, was delicious with this roll.

Samurai Roll ($12.95)
Shrimp crunch roll topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce & spicy mayonnaise.

Samurai Roll was also good, but not as good as the Tataki Roll. Shrimp tempura was wrapped in California roll, then topped with spicy tuna.

Yea~~~ $0.00 on the bill! We like this restaurant. The food was good. I don't know if this restaurant is Korean owned, but all the waitresses were Korean. Dr. P spoke a few Korean words to our waitress, and she was really nice and friendly. Service was on the slower side, but we enjoyed spending our time looking at the beautiful lake. I think it was a very good value for the Groupon price of $35. But, if I had to pay full price of $75, I would think this restaurant is way overpriced for the amount of food you get. I would come back again if there's another daily deal. But full price, maybe not. We actually left hungry. So.... dinner number 2 here we come!

  1. I would not pay $75 for what you got. I think it's really expensive, and the portion size is very small for what you get.

I agree. I think this place is expensive because of its location and lake view.
