[Irvine] [American] 6ix Park Grill

6ix Park Grill

This was another Groupon daily deal that I bought. For $25, you get $50 worth of food and two glasses of wine at 6ix Park Grill (up to a $72 total value). I love when those usually 50% off daily deal actually offer something more than 50% off, such as adding two glasses of wine to the meal.

6ix Park Grill is located inside Hyatt Hotel in Irvine right off the 405 freeway. We used to live right across the street! Since it's a restaurant inside a hotel, the decor and setup feels just like a restaurant inside a hotel. Valet parking is complimentary if you get validation from the restaurant, but you still have to tip though. So why waste $2? Self parking is free just right around the corner.

Outside patio area looked nice. But it was a chilly night so we opted to sit indoor.

White Wine ($11.00) / Red Wine ($11.00)

We started off with two glasses of wine, one white and one red. Dr. P picked the wine and I don't remember the name. At first, I thought the white wine was really good, and the red was just alright. But when we paired the red wine with steak, the flavor turned so good.

Bread

Service was quite slow at 6ix Park Grill. Either they were understaffed, or the waitstaff was just not trained well. They weren't too attentive, and the hostess also had to bus the table, which was kinda strange. The pretzel stick gread they served was great.

Chilean Seabass ($32.00)
Sesame-sake marinated, pineapple-ginger risotto, haricot verts, yuzu pan sauce

Dr. P ordered Chilean Seabass. The fish was cooked very well. Very flavorful, and very soft. The only complaint, it was very very oily. The pineapple risotto was tasty, but it was sitting on top of a pool of oil that the bottom part was inedible. If this dish wasn't that oily, it would've been perfect.

8 oz Prime USDA Flat Iron Steak ($26.00)
With sauteed mushrooms (shitake, shimeji, maitake)

I ordered Flat Iron Steak with a side of sauteed mushrooms. The steak wasn't an expensive cut, but it tasted like filet mignon because it was grilled so well. The meat was very tender and juicy. Sauteed mushroom was a bit salty though.

We thought the portion was small, and left hungry... again. Is it just us? Do we eat a lot? This place was definitely pricey. The steak was good, service and decor was just so-so. Overall 6ix Park Grill didn't wow me, and I probably won't return again. I think I can get better food and better service with bigger portion at better price elsewhere.

  1. Looks like this is the type of restaurants where you would need to get appetizers and desserts to get full. And I agree with you that red wine goes very well with steaks.

Yeah, it just didn't feel like a complete meal with just two entrees.
This place is expensive so we didn't want to go too over budget.
We ended up getting boba milk tea and popcorn chicken afterward. :-)

  2. No, you don't eat that much! I would have to hit a burger joint after eating such a small meal like this.

    haha... *high five*
