[Monterey Park] [Chinese] 得月樓 Giang Nan

My parents like Giang Nan a lot.  Our relatives from Canada came to LA for my brother's wedding.  My parents took my aunt and uncle to Giang Nan for lunch.

Gi-Chai with Bean Curd Cake

The waitress recommended Gi-Chai with Bean Curd Cake for appetizer.  The bean curd cake was chopped into tiny little pieces.  I like the taste of Gi-Chai.  This was a tasty cold dish to start the meal.

Marinated Jelly Pork Zhen Jiang Style ($4.95)

Marinated Jelly Pork Zhen Jiang Style was another cold appetizer we ordered.  The jelly pork tasted good with Zhen Jiang black vinegar.

Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoots ($4.95)

I love the bamboo shoots in Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoots.  It was crisp and super fresh.

Sauteed Shrimp ($7.95)

Sauteed Shrimp tasted good, but a little oily though.

Steamed Pork Bun (8) ($4.25)

Steamed Pork Bun is always good here.  I like to have it with some black vinegar.

Bean Curd with Ham ($6.95)

Bean Curd with Ham (and shrimp I guess) came in a soupy broth.  I like to pour some broth over my rice and eat it that way.

Fried Seaweed with Yellow Fish ($8.95)

Fried Seaweed with Yellow Fish, the name said it all.  Fried seaweed fish, yum!

Braised Chicken with Wine & Basil in Clay Pot ($6.95)

Braised Chicken with Wine & Basil in Clay Pot was good.  The chicken pieces were meaty.

Sauteed Eel ($7.95)

I remember having this dish in Taiwan all the time.  I've always liked Sauteed Eel.  The eel was cut into thin strips, and sauteed with a yummy brown sauce.

Chinese Squash with Gluten Puffs & Peas in Clay Pot

Chinese Squash with Gluten Puffs & Peas in Clay Pot was one of my mom's favorite dishes.  Chinese Squash has a sweet taste when it's really fresh.  I like it a lot, too.

Mixed Platter with Ba-Bao Hot Sauce ($5.95)

Mixed Platter with Ba-Bao Hot Sauce was a good dish to eat with rice.  I like to have the leftover with plain noodle, too.

Crab Meat & Meatball Casserole ($8.95)

Chinese people usually have soup after, rather than the Western way of having soup first.  Crab Meat & Meatball Casserole was one of my favorite soup.  The meatball actually had crab roe in it.  Very soft and tasty.  Love the soup!

Food at Giang Nan was pretty good.  The portion was on the smaller side.  But their price was very reasonable.  I actually like the smaller portion because we could order a variety of dishes to try.  It's not a restaurant I would go out of my way to eat, but if I'm around the area, I wouldn't mind going. Parents, aunts and uncles were very happy with the food. So it's all good! :-)
