After leaving the national park, we went into to town searching for a lunch spot. There were a few restaurant in town. The two big ones were full of tourists. We took a look at the menu at their doors, and thought prices were on the higher side. We saw a local old man just hanging out at a street corner, and decided to ask him for a suggestion. He walked us over to a smaller restaurant called Las Gemelas. He said that this is more of a local spot with good food and reasonable price.
We grabbed a ocean view patio table.
That old man was right. This is definitely the local hangout spot. A lot of local surfers came in to grab a quick bite or a beer. Lots of bikini hot girls came in to say hi to the servers and bartender, too. This was right up Dr. P's alley. He had fun chatting with our server and other customers about surfing.
Casado Tipico Costarricense / Costa Rican Typical Casado (CR$3,500) (US$7.00)
Arroz blanco, frijoles negros, platano maduro, ensalada, opcion de pollo, carne, pescado.
White rice, black beans, fried plantains, salad and chicken beef or fish
I ordered my favorite meal in Costa Rica, a Typical Casado. I picked fish as my protein. Yup, need I say more? Everything was DELICIOUS!
Bufalito de Camarones / Shrimp Bufalito (CR$5,500) (US$11.00)
Tortilla de hanna lechuga, apio, queso mozzarella, salsa picante y papas fritas
Flour tortilla, lettuce, celery, Mozzarella cheese, hot sauce and French fries
Dr. P took our server's recommendation and ordered buffalo shrimp burrito. The fried shrimp was fresh and so yummy. The hot sauce was addictive. He loved it!
Great lunch! Ahhhh how I miss Costa Rican food!
While we were eating, we saw this cute dog asking for food at the next door fried chicken place. All the dogs in Costa Rica know how to play sweet and cute to get food. haha...
Also saw a cute kitty just walking around. She then walked into the restaurant, and nobody cared. I like how people in Costa Rica just live with animals peacefully.
On our way walking back to the hotel after lunch, we passed by a small gelato shop. Since the flavor were written the Spanish, I had to ask the server about it. I saw this creamed color one called "malaga", and the server told me it was grape. So I thought "hmmmm since it's not purple, I guess they don't use artificial coloring in those" and ordered it. I took a bite, and found out what he meant by "grape" was actually "rum and raisin". haha... It was all good though because I actually like rum and raisin.
That night we had the leftover ribs from the night before in our room. Love having a small kitchen in our suite. Also love the geckos on the ceilings. I never knew geckos has such a loud cry.
Later that night, we had a surprised visitor on the balcony. This small kitten was soooooooo cute! But as soon as I opened the balcony door, she ran away. I waited outside for a while, but she never came back. Maybe she'll come back the next day? (*hint hint*)
