[Irvine] [Chinese] A&J Restaurant

The day after dinner party at Black Cherry Garden, I woke up with the worst hangover headache.  I didn't know why I had a hangover.  I didn't even get drunk!  Could it be the Claritin I took?  I guess I should never mix alcohol with medication.  Lesson learned.

芽菜海帶 Seaweed & Bean Sprout in Garlic Vinegar Sauce ($1.95)

With the throbbing headache, all I wanted was a bowl of hot soup.  Dr. P took me to A&J for some beef noodle soup to recuperate.  We started the meal with a small plate of Seaweed & Bean Sprout in Garlic Vinegar Sauce.  We tried the cucumber and pickled cabbage before.  The seaweed is the best appetizer we've tried.

雞排菜飯 Chinese Style Fried Chicken on Rice ($6.25)

We tried the pork chop rice a few times before.  This time we switched to Chinese Style Fried Chicken on Rice.  It was cooked exactly the same way as the pork chop.  But the chicken tasted softer and meatier.  We both like the chicken better than the pork chop.

紅燒各半麵 Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup (Szechuan Style) ($6.95)

The Spicy Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup we came for.  It was very soothing having a bowl of hot soup when you have a hangover.  I didn't eat the beef because I only like tendon.  They used to give customers pickled vegetable (酸菜) with beef noodle soup.  Now you have to ask for it.  I always eat beef noodle soup with pickled vegetable.  Without it, the soup just doesn't taste right for me.

紅油炒手 Spicy Wonton with Hot Red Sauce (Szechuan Style) ($3.95)

I like their Spicy Wonton with Hot Red Sauce.  The sauce was good.  The price is very reasonable.

牛肉餡餅 Pan Fried Beef Bun ($1.50/each)

Dr. P loves their Pan Fried Beef Bun.  He ate one there, and took one http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com for snack later.  Be careful when you eat the bun because it is super juicy.

Another reason I like coming to A&J is because.... there is a Yogurtland right next door!  haha....  We always go have Yogurtland before going http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  I love Yogurtland!  Just writing about it make me wanna have some right now.  Maybe I will go right now?

  1. I'm not a fan of Yogurtland. I don't see what the big deal is. But...seeing as how they are spreading like wildfire...they must be doing something right.

Every Yogurtland is packed any time any day.
Yup, they must be doing something right.

  2. I love yogurtland too, but I don't like pinkberry at all. Taste too sour to me, not to mention it is more expensive. I can add all sorts of toppings at yogurtland. So yummy. :)

I can get a big cup of yogurt with yummy toppings enough to share with Dr. P for $4 at Yogurtland.
The same amount probably cost $10 at Pinkberry. Yogurtland is always crowded, and Pinkberry is always empty now.

  4. Hehe, I like tendon too :). Would have posted a beef tendon curry recipe but the photo was not good enough that I took. A&J is now in Arcadia also nearby El Monte, might try them out someday...

Yogurtland is still quite busy in my area. Even with new competition it is still full! Smart marketing to make the cups even higher as it makes it seem you have very little yogurt.

I didn't know there's an A&J in Arcadia. I'll let my parents know.
