We had a big dinner party at Black Cherry Garden about 10 days ago.  It was Wen's birthday party, congratulation party for Atsushi's new job, and a farewell party to Black Cherry Garden.

Yakitori

I wasn't sure how many yakitori we had that night.  I was super full, and super satisfied with the food.  After consuming a few glasses of red wine, I started forgetting to take pictures, and the pictures I did took turned out to be really blurry.

We love the food at Black Cherry Garden.  But we were more focusing on the "people" that night.  We were busy talking, drinking, laughing, and pretty much just having a good time.  Mr. E taught us how to take pictures from a higher angle to appear skinner.  It totally works!  haha....

The kids table.  The big kids were busy playing Nintendo DS all night.  The little kids were super cute!  I have been reading about Adrian and Scarlett on their mom's blog for years.  They are the most polite and well-behaved little kid ever!  They both love to smile a lot.  I want to take them http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com after finally meeting them.  I promised Adrian a big birthday cake for his birthday in September.  I asked him what flavor does he want.  He thought about it and thought about it and said, "Instead of one big cake, can I have 3 small cakes with different flavors?"  Not only he's cute, he's also smart!  haha....  Yes, you can get 3 small cakes for your birthday, Adrian!

Big people table #1.

Big people table #2.  There were so many people there that night.

Lovely waitress Takae.  She is the sweetest girl!  We went to karaoke afterward and she sang "First Love" by Hikaru Utada per my request.   Boy, that girl can sing!

Riunite Lambrusco

I love this Italian light red wine.  It tasted a lot like this wine from Taiwan called Rose Red (玫瑰紅).  All I need is some apple cider.  haha....  That's how we drink the Rose Red Wine in Taiwan... by mixing it with apple cider (蘋果西打).  It tasted like yummy soda, but it'll get you drunk fast!

The greatest yakitori chef, Atsushi!  Now he finished cooking, time to drink!

We toured the kitchen, and saw where magic happened.  This grill is where all the delicious yakitori was made.

Atsushi said that different charcoal will give the yakitori different aroma and flavor.  He uses this special charcoal from Japan.

Somehow the party had moved into the kitchen.  I guess people can't wait for the yakitori to be brought out.  Mr. E started grilling the sausage he brought, and we just started eating in the kitchen.

Happy birthday time!  It was a huge taro cake.

Three pretty girls standing by the wall.... 站壁.... haha....

Me:  Can I join you girls, please?  Them:  Go stand on the side.

Fred:  Can I join you guys.  Them:  Fine.... haha....

Takae made coffee jelly for us at the end.  Yum yum yum yum!

Big group picture in front of Black Cherry Garden.

And just the girls!

After everybody left, Leo, Dr. P, and I stayed to help Takae and Atsushi to clean up so they can come to karaoke with us.  After clearing the tables, looking at the empty restaurant, I felt a little..... sadness.

We really LOVE Black Cherry Garden.  That night was Black Cherry Garden's last night, and we were Atsushi's last customers.  It's a little sad, but it's also a new beginning.  Atsushi will be working at Wokcano as the head yakitori chef.  He will be at the Santa Monica location for 2 months to train the staffs, then he will be working in Burbank location after that.

Bye bye Black Cherry Garden!

  2. Best Yakitori I've ever had... maybe someday Atsushi will reopen the restaurant :)

Yeah I hope he will when he gains more experience and money.
Hopefully next time he'll find a better location and business will take off.
He is such a talented and humble chef!
