I listen to everything Oprah says.  When Oprah said everyone should watch Food Inc, I made Dr. P watched the eye opening documentary about where food comes from with me.  I highly recommend this film to everyone.  It will make you think about what you put in your mouth and start making conscious choices about what you eat.  We also saw the interview with Chipotle Mexican Grill's founder Steve Ells on Oprah.  He said that everything in Chipotle is freshly made in the restaurant.  There is no frozen vegetable except corn.  All of their chicken and pork are natural raised, and 60% of their beef is grass-fed.  There is no machine operation in their restaurant.  Everything is chopped, cooked, grilled, and prepared by their cooks.  After watching the interview, Dr. P stopped by the restaurant to pick up some healthier Mexican fast food from Chipotle for us to try.

Salad With Chicken ($5.70)
Chopped romaine lettuce with choice of beans, meat, salsa and cheese, with freshly made chipotle-honey vinaigrette.  Naturally raised chicken, marinated in our Chipotle adobo, then grilled.

The menu at Chipotle is very simple.  There's salad, burrito, and taco.  Meat choices are chicken, pork, and beef.  There's also vegetarian option.  Dr. P got a Salad with Chicken for us to share.  All the ingredients tasted so fresh, even the frozen corn!  The grilled chicken was tender and very flavorful.  I like the honey vinaigrette, but Dr. P thought it was a bit too sweet for his taste.  He said next time he'll request to have salsa as dressing.

Chicken Burrito ($5.70)
Flour tortilla, with choice of cilantro-lime rice, pinto or vegetarian black beans, meat, salsa, cheese or sour cream.  Naturally raised chicken, marinated in our Chipotle adobo, then grilled.

Chipotle's burrito is HUGE!  I barely ate half and I was super full.

I love everything in this burrito.  Their rice and bean is so yummy.

Carnitas Tacos ($5.95)
Your choice of soft flour or crispy corn tortillas, filled with meat, salsa, cheese or sour cream, and romaine lettuce.  Naturally raised seared pork, braised for hours then shredded.

We were so happy with the food so Dr. P returned a few days later to get more yummy food to bring http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  He got some Carnitas Tacos.  Each order comes with 3 tacos.

On Oprah's interview, Steve Ells talked about how he test taste different pork from the meat vendors, and thought the natural raised pork tasted the best.  I agree with him 100%.  Their pork just tasted so fresh, and none of that porky taste.  The vegetables were always fresh and crisp.

Steak Burrito ($5.95)
Flour tortilla, with choice of cilantro-lime rice, pinto or vegetarian black beans, meat, salsa, cheese or sour cream.  Steak is marinated in our Chipotle adobo, then grilled.

Dr. P got a Steak Burrito.  They don't give you a lot of meat, but more vegetable, grains, and beans, which I think is the right proportion.  I didn't try it, but Dr. P said it was absolutely delicious.

Vegetarian Fajita Burrito ($5.70)
Just like a burrito but with sauteed peppers and onions instead of beans.  Vegetarian includes our freshly-made guacamole and black beans.

After reading Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet, I am starting to "flirt" with the idea of vegetarianism, and ordered a Vegetarian Fajita Burrito.  It had grilled bell peppers & onion, black beans, corn, lettuce, cilantro lime rice, guacamole, and sour cream.  It was sooooooo good and satisfying.  I did not miss meat at all!  Even Dr. P thought this burrito was amazing.  He said he will get this one next time, too.

We LOVE Chipotle!  Why didn't I discover this place sooner?

  1. Chipotle is pretty good but after trying Rubio's I have a different opinion. They are "different" but I'd choose Rubio's over Chipotle.

    Rubio's pretty good, too.
But I like the fresh & natural ingredients form Chipotle.

  2. As someone in the meat industry, lots of Food Inc is heavily biased and lots of it is just plain wrong.

I know this film is one side story.
I would like to see and hear what the meat industry have to say about this film.
Unfortunately, most meat declined for interview for the film.

  3. PS
I'd like to hear from TJOC Jessica where Food Inc is heavily biased...

I'm sure everything has two sides of story.

  4. Flirting? Well the next thing you know you're seeing the each other twice a week...and before you know it you're doing stuff on special occasions...and then you may even end up being exclusive for a long, long time, if not a lifetime :0
Anyway that's what happened to me with eating vegetarian...I still eat seafood but have not eaten red meat for 6 months even as a former burger lover. Honestly I don't miss it. But I will miss fresh fruits and vegetable if I don't "get some" in a day : )

I am working my way to eat less meat and more veggies.
What made you decide to give up meat? Was it difficult in the beginning?
I find going out to eat in restaurant was hard for me to resist ordering meat dishes. >_<

  5. Yes, Chipotle is good! On a trip to Washington DC we discovered Chipotle as it was right next to our hotel...and we ate it for so many meals! Only to find out it is here in CA too. We still think the Maryland one is better slightly but CA is still quite good.

I like to order both the corn salsa and the tomato salsa together when I order my items at Chipotle. More veggies :).

Dr. P likes Qdoba a lot too. I had it when I went to Michigan to visit him.
But they don't have that many stores in S. Cali. Have you tried Qdoba?
