I am loving the website GrouponGroupon is a website that (1) Each day featuring something cool to do at an unbeatable price; (2) The deal is on if enough people join that day; and (3) Check back the next day for another awesome Groupon!  My first groupon was for a massage + facial + pedicure at an Aveda salon for $50.  Original price is like $175 or something like that.  Ever since that experience, I am hooked on Groupon.  I bought a lot of restaurant groupons because I love going out to eat and try new places.  Last night we decided to use our Groupon to try Good To Go, a vegetarian/vegan/raw restaurant.

I forgot to bring my camera so all the pictures were taken with Dr. P's cell phone.  The restaurant is located in a strip mall.  It looked like a small fast food place from outside.  On their window, they wrote "Pizza, hamburger & Shakes.  Junk food without the Junk!"  It was kinda funny and cute.  The restaurant was small and clean.

The lady behind the counter was really friendly and nice.  She asked us if it was our first time there, how did we find the restaurant, where are we from, and gave us a tour of their dessert bar.  We told her that we found the restaurant from Groupon.  The groupon was good for $20, which I bought for $10.

Power Green Smoothie ($7.95)
Mixed greens, banana, filtered water

We shared a Power Green Smoothie, which was made with organic mixed greens, banana, and filtered water.  The smoothie was very tasty and fulfilling.  It was expensive, but organic veggies and fruit usually cost more.

Kinky Kale Salad ($11.99)
Kalamata olives, avocado, red bell pepper, pine nuts, crispy onions

We ordered two entrees to share.  We decided on Kinky Kale Salad because we both like kale, and we've never had kale salad before.  It was a huge plate of salad.  Lots of very fresh kale leaves, with kalamata olives, very thin slices of red bell pepper, and lots of sweet crispy onions.  But there was no avocado nor pine nuts as described on the menu.  The salad had a little bit of spiciness to it.  I wasn't sure if it was the naturally slightly spiciness of the kale, or from the dressing.  The dressing was.... sour.  VERY sour.  It was so sour that I had to squint my eyes with every bite.  Then I gave up.  It was just too sour for me.  But Dr. P thought it was good.  He LOVES lemon.  He ate most of the salad, and said he likes the flavor.  Well, not me though.

Grilled Mushroom Sandwich ($10.99)
With side salad

Grilled Mushroom Sandwich also came with a side salad.  The salad dressing was tasty, a lot a lot a lot a lot better than the kale salad sour dressing.  The mushroom sandwich came with white bread.  But for a healthy organic vegetarian restaurant, shouldn't the sandwich come with healthier bread?

Somehow we imagine the grilled mushroom sandwich would have one big piece of portobello mushroom inside the bread.  But their version was sliced mushrrom with onion and red bell pepper.  We love the meaty taste of portobello mushroom.  Dr. P likes the sandwich a lot.  The sandwich was really tasty, but I thought I could easily make this at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.

Coconut Cupcake ($4.59)

From our dessert bar tour when we first came in, we thought the brownie looked really good.  But by the time we finished our dinner, the brownie was sold out.  So we picked Coconut Cupcake for dessert.  All of their desserts are raw vegan desserts.  It was not cooked nor baked.  The cupcake had lots of shredded coconut.  It wasn't too sweet, and it was very light.  The frosting tasted like chocolate, but it was made with some nuts (I think she said cashew?).  I had no idea how they made the dessert, but it tasted good.

We like the smoothie, sandwich, and dessert, but I didn't like the kale salad at all.  We felt really full, but not heavy after dinner.  We walked up to the counter to pay, and the nice lady told us our total was $25 after applying the $20 groupon, which meant our meal was $45.  $45?  Wow!  That was an expensive meal.  The food is expensive, but it was good quality food.  I don't think this would be a restaurant I visited often because of the price, but once in a while we might come back for some healthy smoothies and tasty sandwiches.

  1. I think this new restaurant opened to attract people who work out at the big fitness center in the same shopping center. Too bad that healthy food always seems to cost a lot more...

They do have daily special for about $7.
We tried to order it, but the lady said we couldn't use the groupon for that
because the daily special price is just the cost of the food and they don't make any profit on that.
