Chinese Wedding Banquet Location?

We have about 6 months to prepare for the big day! @^_^@

We decided to have a Chinese wedding banquet because it's easier, more budget friendly, and guests will have better + more food!

So does anyone have suggestion for Chinese wedding banquet location in San Gabriel Valley?  Did you have experience with wedding banquet in a restaurant?  Or you've been to a Chinese wedding banquet with really good food?  Thank you guys in advance for suggestions and recommendations.  ^^

  1. Eileen, I had my wedding at Pacific Palms in Industry. I really liked it because it was such a beautiful and elegant place, and they do offer Chinese banquet menus. The food was not the BEST banquet food I've ever had (it wasn't bad, though), but it was worth it to us for the location.

I went to Pacific Palms for a few weddings before.
I like the location and their Chinese banquet food is quite good.
But I'm thinking more about having the banquet in a restaurant to save money.
Having it in a restaurant meaning we don't have to pay extra money to rent the place.

  2. Congratulations!! How about Oak Tree Inn in South Pasadena? But it also depends on how many guests you are going to have. My friend had her wedding there about ten years ago and booked the entire restaurant for the evening. Very cozy. I am not sure if the restaurant is still willing to do that.

I've never been to Oak Tree Inn, but pass by it all the time when I lived in that area.
I always thought it's a "Americanized" Chinese restaurant from the look of it for some reason.
I'll do some research about that restaurant. Thanks.

  3. hi, may i ask how is the message at aveda going? and do you need to tip them? about how much? I am planning to go. They are still all booked. :( thanks in advance

The massage was great. Yes, you do need to tip them.
You tip 15%~20% of the original price, so about $25~$35.

  5. I don't have many ideas, since I have not attended a Chinese wedding since the 20th century. :) But I did go to my Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary last year, which was at Alhambra Golf Course. I know it wasn't a Chinese banquet like you asked for, but the setting/view was very pretty. I believe you can have ceremony there as well. But then again you might be able to do Chinese food, just maybe my cousins choosed American food.

    Thanks for the info, Liz.
But I am leaning toward having the banquet at the restaurant to save the location fee.
    I wish I have $50,000 to have a dream wedding.... >_<

  6. How about 888 Seafood Restaurant at Valley Blvd and Rosemead.

I like the food at 888.
But the restaurant doesn't seem nice and elegant enough.
    But thanks for the suggestion.

  7. 能夠擺酒席的餐廳就那麼幾家,其實不難選。

    樂宮在o.c. & l.a.

  8. Sorry, I don't know how to reply to in original comment. :P

About saving money by having it in a restaurant instead of hotel - here's a list of restaurant that some friends and I compiled. They are some of the more popular restaurants to have Chinese banquet weddings. Prince Seafood in Cerritos is a bit nicer than many of the "typical" restaurants. I also like Mission 261 (it was our second choice if Pacific Palms didn't work out), but I think it closed down (?).

  10. Congrats!!!!
My friend has her wedding party at Pacific Palms in Industry. It was perfect!!! If you go with America food the price isn't bad~ The services are excellent!!!!

I don't really like American wedding food.
It's usually salad, chicken/steak, and wedding cake.
I really want to treat my guests to good food, and lots of it. haha....
    I want 10 course Chinese banquet! ^^

  11. Try the located in San Gabriel. It's in the mall where the old Sam Woo Restaurant was (4th floor)...Huge place. Or try the Universal Hilton...they put on Chinese Banquets...The food is excellent. My sister had her engagement dinner there with the full Chinese 10 course (think it's 10) banquet. You can go there and speak with the manager...Good luck!

I went to a wedding there, too.
I really like the food, and the restaurant looked nice and elegant.
That restaurant is high on my list.
    Thanks for the info.

  12. Hi, Eileen, I have read your blog for years and few days ago just found out my USC old friend (class of 1995)'s friend's sister is your friend. Any way, congratulation!

    Two suggestions for the wedding:
    1) Lunasia Chinese Cuisine on 500 West Main St Suite A, Alhambra (626) 308-3222 http://www.lunasiachinesecuisine.com/Lunasia
Elegent and clean restroom. Good Dim Sum. You can try that first.
(next to my favorite Japanese restaurant Toros run by Taiwanese; best in the area; $70 per person chef special at the sushi bar)

    2) Mission 261 at Mission Dr. in San Gabriel
Elegent and huge high ceiling hall with the stage
    261 S. Mission Dr
    San Gabriel, CA 91776
    626.588.1666
    http://www.mission261.com

    Good luck!
Happy to finally write to you!

So who is your friend's friend's sister? haha....
I will definitely check out Lunasia.
I have been to Mission 261 before. The restaurant looks nice.
But I thought they are closed?
Thank you so much for the suggestion, Sharina!

  13. Eileen, you are very welcome!

If you send me an email (I couldn't find your email address anywhere), I have some advice for you re: Pacific Palms (if you are interested). :)

My email address is: eileen at eileent dot com.
Thank you so much for your help!!
For now I am only considering restaurants. I will start visiting them (according to your list! ^^) this weekend.
If I can't find any restaurant I like, then I might need some info about Pacific Palms.
Thanks again! Your list have helped me tremendously!

  14. Mission 261 has been closed now for quite some time. Also look New Capitol in Rowland Heights, right off the 60 frwy...But, I do really recommend Universal Hilton. Better yet, just fly to Hawaii and get marry there...hehehe

I like Universal Hilton's buffet! haha....
God I wish I have enough money to fly to Hawaii (and fly all my family and friends there to) for a beach wedding.
Maybe I should start a "fundraiser"? haha...

  15. Dear Eileen,

First, big congrats to you & Dr. Park!! I am so so happy for both of you!! :)

I lived in the OC all my life so sorry I don't have good LA County restaurants info for you..Most of the weddings I went to were taking places in the hotels by PCH (Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach & Dana Point....etc)....I also know some people had their weddings in golf clubhouses or private mansions/resorts available for rentals in LA/OC areas.

    Thank you, Nana.
I love all the locations along the beach line in OC.
But most of our friends and relatives live in Los Angeles County.
So we thought having the wedding in San Gabriel Valley would be easier for everyone.
A beach wedding sounds very romantic though.

  16. I haven't been to Mission 261 for a long time. I didn't know it closed. I just sent an e-mail to ask my USC friend about his friend's name and his sister's. I know, the connection is pretty far. That's why I didn't bother to ask about the names at the beginning.

I forgot if you wrote about "Moo-Dae-Po II: All you can eat Korean-BBQ" at 3014 7th St. LA, CA 90005 (tel#213-381-9990). Last night, my hubby took me there for the 1st time. I loved it. Cheap ($16.99 per person) and fun. Most of the customers were young and dressed hot! Cute waiters! For a moment, the store turned off all the lights and played the dancing songs while we were eating the BBQ. I know, weird & wild! Just like the night club. Their outside sign even says "flirt" as part of their theme! Of course, this is not the recommendation for your wedding but for sure it's a fun place for groups of friends.

I have never been to Moodaepo II. What a fun place!
Hmmm I think I've found the place to have my birthday party next year.
    Thaks, Sharina!

  17. I'd recommend Embassy Kitchen (several posts on my blog), which although isn't a big banquet like place does serve nicely prepared Chinese food. Don't really recommend for you going to either Hop Li or Full House as both aren't as high quality as some other places, although those are more expensive (but it is your wedding!). Full House is bad at big banquets and the such so I don't recommend them; they are fine other days though.

Empress Harbor and Capital Seafood are other good options for Monterey Park. Capital is a bit more new inside with European like moldings, Empress Harbor is traditional.

    Thanks for the recommendation.
I'll be sure to check out Embassy Kitchen.

  18. Finally, I got the names. Ruby Tsou is the sister. My friend Daniel Chou is her brother Jack's USC friend. Another brother is Jason. Do you know them? They just had dinner togehter few weeks ago and that was when your blog was mentioned.

Yes, I know Ruby, very very well! haha....
I know her brothers, too, but not so well.
I'm gonna call Ruby tonight to tell her what a small world it is! ^^

One of the new managers is from 888 in San Gabriel - Mr. Lee who worked for 888 for 16 years (inside news)

    Thank you for the info.
We'll go check out their wedding banquet menu very soon.

  20. Hi, Eileen,

We just had DimSum lunch at New Mission 261 today and talked about your wedding with the manager Mr. Joseph Lee who has known my husband's family for more than 10 years. I looked around the restaurant and I think you will like it. The court yard has a grape tree more than 100 years. That's why the city denied the developer to cut it down to build a hotel at the restaurant site. That'e why Mission 261 re-opened on March 16. Now, Mr. Lee has your first name but I need to tell you his cellphone phone and my personal info. Can you see my personal e-mail at your side? Can you send an e-mail to me and we can talk in private? If you already decide the location, please ignore this. Sharina

    Thank you so much, Sharina.
I emailed you. Thank you for thinking of me. ^^

  21. Hi Eileen,

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. Do you happen to have a copy of Lunasia's menu in electronic form? I am also very interested in having my wedding reception there and could not find their banquet menus on their website, and I will not be able to visit the restaurant for a couple more months, as my fiancee and I live in San Francisco.

    Thanks!

I will email you the menu soon.
(But sorry, I probably won't be able to do so till Friday.
I'm at my parent's house and won't go back to the apartment till later this week.
And I have the menu at my apartment.)
