We have heard great things about Fleming's Prime Steakhouse from friends for quite a while.  I saw American Express offers Fleming's gift card for member rewards, and exchanged my points for a $50 gift card.  Finally we got to try the restaurant at the end of the year 2009.

We made our reservation at the Newport Beach location.  The restaurant is in the Fashion Island shopping mall.  We spotted a yellow big truck parked outside the restaurant.  The truck looked like it was custom built.  Very unique.

Bread

The meal started with bread and butter.  I really like the salmon colored butter.  I am not sure what was in the butter, maybe some garlic and cheese?  It was so flavorful.

Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon ($11.25)

Dr. P ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon to go with our steak dinner.

Fleming's offers a special fall prix fixe menu for $39.95.  They also have a prime rib 3 course dinner special every Sunday night.  We decided to order one fall prix fixe dinner and one prime rib dinner to share.

The Wedge Salad ($9.50)
Crisp iceberg lettuce with grape tomatoes, red onions and crumbled blue cheese.

I ordered The Wedge Salad.  The crisp iceberg lettuce was cold and refreshing.  Love the blue cheese crumbs and dressing.

Flaming's Chopped Salad
Bacon, olives, asparagus, blue cheese and vinaigrette.

Dr. P ordered Flaming's Chopped Salad.  He said it was very good.  The flavor of bacon, olives, asparagus, and blue cheese all mixed together was complex and delicious.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to try this salad before the busboy took it away.  As we were eating our salad, there were some disturbance because a guest on wheelchair needed to go in and out from the side door.  Our table was right there in front of the side door, so there were a lot of stop eating and moving our chairs around.  We didn't really know what was going on, but that guest and her family came in and out of the restaurants a few times.  We didn't even get to finish our salad and the main course was at the table.  The busboy just took our unfinished salad away before I had a chance to tell him that I wasn't finished with the salad yet.  It was a bit choatic and Dr. P and I were both feeling really stressed out by the situation.  But a manager from the restaurant came and apologize for it a few minutes later, and asked if we would like to change seats.  We decided to stay at the table, and tried to enjoy the rest of the evening the best we could.

Prime Rib Dinner ($36.95)
Available on Sundays.  Prime rib served with a trio of sauces, includes your choice of The Wedge, Fleming's or Caesar salads, one side dish and dessert.

Prime rib..... yum!  This was one delicious piece of prime rib.  It was cooked to a perfect medium with pink in the center.  All 3 sauces were good, but my favorite was the horseradish sauce.  The steak was seasoned well and strong.  We both like the prime rib a lot.

Filet Mignon Brochette ($39.95)
Shallots, mushrooms and sweet peppers with madeira sauce.

Dr. P's Filet Mignon Brochette was from the fall prix fixe menu.  The filet mignon was grilled like kabob.  I had a few bites.  It wasn't bad, but not exactly good, either.  I actually didn't remember too much about it.  Dr. P took a few bites, and started eating my prime rib as well.  We both thought the prime rib was much much better than the Filet Mignon Brochette.

Fleming's Potatoes ($8.95)
Our house specialty with cream, jalapenos and cheddar cheese.

One of the sides we picked was Fleming's Potatoes.  I am going to order this one every time in the future!  This potato dish was Yummy with a big Y.  It was creamy, cheesy, and rich.

Baked Tomatoes with parmesan stuffing

Baked Tomatoes with Parmesan Stuffing was juicy and actually pretty light.  We liked it.

Cheesecake ($9.50)
New York style cheesecake with a graham cracker crust, served with bluebery sauce and white chocolate sahvings.
Chocolate Lave Cake ($10.95)
Rich chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center, served with vanilla ice cream and chopped pistachios.
Creme Brulee ($8.50)
Creamy Tahitian vanilla bean custard served with fresh seasonal berries.
Walnut Turtle Pie ($8.50)
Homemade caramel, walnuts and chocolate baked in a chocolate pie crust.

Dr. P's prix fixe menu dessert was chocolate mousse cake, and I picked souffle for my dessert.  But our waiter brought us this giant plate of desserts.  This was how they apologized for the inconvenience earlier in the evening.  We really didn't expect this at all.  We managed to finished the creme brulee at the restaurant, and took the rest to go.  We did finished all of the desert at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com in the next few days.  We absolutely loved all of the dessert, especially the Chocolate Lava Cake!

Along the the bill, we were also given a $25 gift card to use for our next visit.  We have mixed feeling about this restaurant.  For me, I thought the food was delicious, and I love the prime rib dinner.  Dr. P didn't think his filet mignon was all that great.  He commented that he thinks Ruth Chris' steak was much better.  Service-wise, we weren't too happy about it in the beginning of our meal, but they tried hard to make it up.  We weren't really sure if we'd go back to Fleming again.  But with the $25 gift card, I guess we have to return again for their prime rib dinner on Sunday.  Smart move with the gift card, Fleming!  haha....

  3. I enjoy going to Flemings. But I only like their regular steaks. The ones on the price fixed menus, they cook differently, and add all these sauces, and I don't think it tastes very good. If you go back Dr. P should order just their regular filet mignon or whatever cut he prefers.

I thought making a good piece of filet mignon into a beef kabob was a bit of a waste.
Next time we'd definitely try their regular steak instead of the prix fixe ones.

  4. Yeah... their filet mignon isn't all that great. They have pretty good rib eye though. So nice that they apologized with the platter of desserts. =)

  8. I wonder if that yellow truck belongs to Guy Fieri. I saw him driving a similar truck in Pebble Beach. http://www.grubstreet.com/2012/04/guy-fieri-enormous-yellow-truck-pebble.html#
