My parents wanted to go to Lake Spring Shanghai Restaurant because they are having a buy 3 get 1 free lunch special deal.  My brother lives nearby, so we called him to join us for lunch.

酸辣湯 Hot & Sour Soup

Right after ordering, our waitress brought us four bowls of Hot & Sour Soup.  It was your standard hot and sour soup.  Tasted good.

八寶辣醬 Stewed Precious in Soy Bean Sauce ($5.95)

Stewed Precious in Soy Bean Sauce is one of my dad's favorite dish.  The Chinese name is called "Eight Tresures in Spicy Sauce", but it wasn't spicy at all.  Shanghai food always tastes sweet.  This dish was no exception.  They used a sweet soy bean sauce to make the dish.  There were bean curd, green and red pepper, peanut, and pork in the dish.  Personally I prefer the slightly spicy version over the sweet version, but it was still pretty good.  My parents always use the leftover to mix with noodle.  It tastes really good that way!

酸菜大腸 Pork Intestine with Sour Vegetable ($5.95)

My parents have been here many times before.  They thought the dishes here are always too sweet.  So they requested "less sugar" when ordering.  But the waitress said that they have to use sugar for Pork Intestine with Sour Vegetable, otherwise this dish would taste terrible.  I guess this dish needed the sweetness to balance with the salty and sour pickled vegetable.  The flavor of this dish was great.  I like how they added bamboo shoots and shitake mushroom with it.  But the intestine must came from a little piggy because it was small and skinny.  I still liked it though.

雪菜毛豆魚片 Sliced Fish with Slated Vegetable & Bean ($5.95)

Sliced Fish with Slated Vegetable & Bean was a healthy dish.  Healthy dish = a bit bland.  haha....  My mom really likes it.

香干肉絲 Shredded Dry Bean Cake and Pork ($5.95)

Shredded Dry Bean Cake and Pork was alright.  "Dry Bean Cake" was actually bean curd.  The pork was tender.  But this dish was a bit bland, even though it didn't look bland.

小籠包 Shanghai Steam Dumpling ($3.00)

They have a special on Shanghai Steam Dumpling for $3.  So we ordered one.  It was pretty good, not as juicy as other place's, but pretty good.

By looking at the dishes my parents order, my conclusion is that they love beans.  Bean curd, bean curd, soy bean sauce, and edamame beans.  So many beans.... haha....  This lunch was only about $20 with leftover.  So cheap!  To be honest, I thought the food was only alright, but it definitely was a good value.

  1. everything looks good and the price is even better (if the serving size ain't too small?)

I also like 八寶辣醬, indeed delicious with noodles =)

Lunch serving size is a little smaller than their normal portion.
But I think the standard "normal" portion is way too big in America.
八寶辣醬 is delicious with noodle, especially with 手拉麵. Yum yum yum!
