[San Francisco] [Seafood] Nick's Lighthouse

Nick's Lighthouse
2815 Taylor St
San Francisco, CA 94133
(415) 929-1300

For our trip up north, Dad had requested to go visit Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.  Last time our family went there together was about 20 years ago.  What to eat at Fisherman's Wharf?  Fresh seafood, of course!

We walked by some fancy looking restaurants on the bigger street.  Then we walked by the smaller eateries with street side stands.  Just as we were deciding which place to go, we saw some guy delivered two big boxes of live crabs to Nick's Lighthouse.  Dad then suggested to have some fresh crab there.

When people want a quick bite, they can order with this guy, then stand on the street side to eat.

There are also some prepared sandwich, salad, and seafood if people want to grab something fast to-go.

We preferred to have a sit-down lunch and went into the dining area.  We got there really early, around 11am.  We were the first customers, but the restaurant got filled up really fast after that.

Bread

Our waitress was very friendly.  She asked us where are we from, and told us she moved to San Francisco from San Diego some 20 something years ago.  She brought us a basket of bread to start the meal.  The bread was cold and hard.  It was good we didn't get too filled up by bread because we ordered a lot of delicious seafood.

Boston Clam Chowder in Bread Bowl ($7.50)

Just have to have clam chowder in sourdough bowl when visiting Fisherman's Wharf.  Since all the entrees come with soup or salad, we got a discount of $3.50 on the Boston Clam Chowder in Bread Bowl.

Dr. P and I shared the clam chowder.  It tasted different than the clam chowder we were used to.  The soup was lighter, not as thick, and tasted a little bland actually.  But there were a lot of clam, potatoes, and leek in the soup.

Lobster Bisque in Bread Bowl ($7.50)

Mom and Dad shared Lobster Bisque in Bread Bowl, also with the discounted price of $4.00 each.  I had a sip of the soup and thought it tasted better than the clam chowder.  Dad didn't like the bread at first.  But after it was soaked in soup for a bit, it became really soft, and he ended up eating most of the bread.

Salad

We ordered 3 entrees, and ordered one of them with salad.  The salad had lettuce, onion, chickpea, tomato, beet, and bay shrimp.  Mom liked the salad.

Blue Point Oysters on the half shell  ($12.75 for 6)

We got a dozen Blue Point Oysters on the Half Shell as appetizer.  The oyster was so fresh that it didn't have any seafood fishy taste at all.  It just tasted really fresh and super good.

Dungeness Crab ($28.95)

We requested to have a fresh live Dungeness Crab from the two boxes that were just delivered.  The waitress told us it would be an extra 15 minutes wait for them to prepare and cook the crab.  We didn't mind.  The crab was really fresh, and it tasted so sweet.  It really didn't need butter, and tasted just great on its own.  The four of us shared 1 crab and didn't think it was enough.  Next time we should order at least one crab for two people.  I could easily finish one on my own though.  Yum!

Linguine with Mussels ($12.75)
with White Wine Sauce

I don't know how they made the sauce so delicious in the Linguine with Mussels.  The mussels tasted great, but some of the mussels still had the beard in it.  I guess they didn't clean the mussels all that well.

Red Snapper Napolitano ($13.95)
with White Wine, Garlic, Capers, Olives, and Marinara Sauce

Red Snapper Napolitano came with rice and vegetable.  The fish was fresh and soft.  The Napolitano sauce was delicious.  It was made with white wine, tomato, capers, olive, and garlic.  Dad liked the rice with the sauce a lot.

We managed to finish all the food and left the restaurant satisfied and super full.  We all agreed this was the best meal on our Northern California trip.  The seafood was really fresh, and they cooked it very well.  Service was great as well.  We will definitely return here again next time we go back to San Francisco.
