[Irvine] [Korean] Sobahn Express Korean Cuisine

Sobahn Express Korean Cuisine is located in the H-Mart food court.  This place is always packed every time we pass by.  Before grocery shopping last night, we had a quick dinner here.

Sobahn's specialty is stone pot dishes.  You can get rice, noodle, soup, tofu, or BBQ, and everything comes in a stone pot.

So what makes stone pot special?  Read the sign on the table.

The stone pot came with a wooden box so we won't accidentally burn our arm.

Bulgogi Hot Stone Bibimbap ($6.99)

Dr. P ordered Bulgogi Hot Stone Bibimbap.  The guy at the counter told us that this is their most popular dish.

He added some hot sauce, and mixed everything together.  The bibimbap was great.  The best part was the crispy rice on the side of the stone pot.  We love the dish.

Miso Soup

The bibimbap came with a bowl of miso soup.

Kimchi & Radish

It also came with kimchi and radish.  Their kimchi was the sour kind.

Bulgogi Stew ($6.99)

I ordered Bulgogi Stew.  It was a soup dish.  The broth was sweet, and it tasted kind of like sukiyaki.  There were bulgogi, onion, enoki mushroom, and glass noodle in the soup.  It came with white rice, kimchi, and radish.  The soup was pretty good, but we both like the bibimbap better.

With Sobahn's receipt, we got to go to the bakery across to get a cup of coffee for $1.  There's a new Korea pizza and fried chicken place that just opened next door, but it's expensive.  We saw some people ordering the pizza and it looked really good.  We would like to go back and try more different dishes from this food court.

  1. I love places like this! Kinda surprised that they had an explanation of their stone qualities and in English even. The bibimbap looks darn good!

The stone pot explanation was very helpful.
