Fisherman's Wharf

After our lunch, we strolled around Fisherman's Wharf before heading back to LA.

We hung out around Pier 43 1/2 and Pier 45.

Mom and Dad taking a picture with Alcatraz Island in the background.

Dr. P and I taking a picture, too.  If you want to visit Alcatraz Island, you have to take a boat ride on one of those ships.  (P.S. I got this long dress at Target for $6.95.  What a great deal!)

We went into Musee Mecanique.  It's free admission.  The museum is full of old school arcades, and all of them are still working.  It was pretty amazing.  A lot of the old old ones are actually quite creepy.  I saw this one called "Opium Den" with Chinese druggie looking people standing around with dark circles around their eyes.  I wonder what a quarter will make them do?  Too bad I forgot to take a picture of that one.

Giant submarine from WWII.  Dad has always been into war stuff, so he was really happy to see something like this.

Why is there a broom on top of the submarine?  Dr. P said, "to keep it clean, of course."

There's also a armed merchant ship from WWII.  This ship was used to transport beans, bullet, and black oil.

We could see the tall building in the downtown area, and how the road goes all the way uphill.  It was getting late, and we had a long drive http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  So we didn't go into San Francisco downtown this time.  But there's always next time.

This concluded our Northern California trip.  We said bye bye to SF and headed back to LA....

  1. I visited Musee Mecanique last year and actually put in a quarter into Opium Den to see what would happen. It was so creepy. Here is my blog post where I uploaded some photos of what happened:

  2. I haven't been back to the San Francisco area in so many years and seeing these photos makes me want to travel there soon. I have never taken the Alcatraz tour, but I fondly remember how much fun it was to take one of the boat tours of SF bay (they seem to leave every hour or so) that take you past the Bay Bridge, past Alcatraz Island, and under the Golden Gate bridge before returning back to the Fisherman's Wharf docking point. I remember seeing the HUGE amount of seals lazily sunning themselves along the nearby docks. The old-fashion trolley cars are fun to ride too---especially if you're on the outside standing up! S.F. has so many great eateries too (the best pizza that I ever had was in San Francisco).

The weekend we went, they were repairing Bay Bridge.
We couldn't drive on the bridge.... too bad.
I've been to SF a few times. The food was great.
I would love to go back more often to explore the city.

  3. I have not been to the Wharf for a long time, even though we go to SF often. We went to Alcatraz about 11 years ago, I was actually disappointed that it was nothing like the movie "the rock". hah

I went to Alcatraz a few years ago, too.
My sister thought the tour was really boring, but I actually found it very interesting.
Maybe I'm very easily entertained... haha....
