After 6+ hours of driving in traffic, we finally made it back to LA around 8pm.  We were hungry.  Dad suggested to have dinner Giang Nan.

We called my brother and his girlfriend and they met us at the restaurant.  They all have been to Giang Nan before and said the food was good.  Dr. P and I were really looking forward to try Giang Nana for the first time.

魚香肉絲 Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce ($6.95)

Dad did the ordering.  Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce was supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't.  It tasted a little sweet.  I prefer the dish to be a little spicier, but it was good enough.

揚州煮乾絲 Bean Curd wih Ham ($7.95)

Mom really liked Bean Curd with Ham.  There were also shrimp and spinach in the dish.  I thought it tasted bland, but Dad said that's just how this dish supposed to taste like.

蔥爆三樣 Shrimp, Chicken & Beef with Scallion ($7.95)

Shrimp, Chicken & Beef with Scallion was a good dish to eat with rice.

苔條魚 Fried Seaweed with Yellow Fish ($8.95)

Everybody loved the Fried Seaweed with Yellow Fish.  The breading was airy and light.  The fish was soft.  This was so good!

八寶辣醬 Mixed Platter with Ba-Bao Hot Sauce ($6.95)

Mixed Platter with Ba-Bao Hot Sauce was another great dish with rice.  I like the pig stomach as one of the "eight treasures" in the dish.  My dad always eats the leftover mixing with noodle.

上海炒年糕 Shanghai Style Fried Rice Cake ($4.95)

Brother's girlfriend has never had Shanghai Style Fried Rice Cake before.  We told her this was rice cake made with sticky rice.  She took a test bite and said it tasted like mochi.  She liked it, and ate some more.  Dr. P had the rice cake Korean style, but never tried it in Chinese style.  He said the Shanghai style was good, but he still prefer the spicy Korean version better.

蟹粉獅子頭砂鍋 Crab Meat & Meatball Casserole ($9.95)

Crab Meat & Meatball Casserole was soooooo good!  Actually I wouldn't call the dish crab meat, but more like crab eggs meatball casserole.  The meatball was so soft.  Tons of cabbage, bamboo shoot, and glass noodle in the soup.  Delicious!

Giang Nan was great.  We got so much food, and price was very reasonable.  My favorite was the meatball soup.  Yum!  Just looking at the picture, I wish I can have some right now!

  1. Try their jellyfish and chopped bean curd with vegetable (appetizers). Fish head soup with green bean sheet is great (order spicy one). Fish and tofu cooked with hot bean paste will make you down at least 2 bowls of rice. In fact, we were there this evening.

    Yum! Everything sounds so good!
We'll go back again and try all the dishes you recommended.
