NCL Mexican Riviera Cruise Day 2: Versailles Main Restaurant Lunch

We didn't like NCL's buffet at all. The food at the main dining room was much much better. One of the main dining room, Versailles, also served lunch. We had lunch there for the rest of the trip.

Just like menu, lunch menu also changed daily.

Lots of options to choose from.

Oyster Fritters

Got the Oyster Fritters with Spicy Aioli-chili Sauce for appetizer.  The dark brown oyster fritters didn't look too appetizing though.

Somehow I thought this dish was more like fried oyster.  When I bit into it, it was completely different from what I expected.  It was more like bread.  I didn't see any oyster, but this "bread" tasted like oyster.

Cooking Light Shrimp and Crab Gumbo

The shrimp and crab gumbo was pretty good.  It was light and a little spicy.

Cooking Light Blackened Mushroom Salad

This mushroom salad was the vegetarian entree.  But we ordered it as an appetizer salad to share.  the marinated portobello mushroom was yummy.

Sweet and Sour Grouper

I ordered the sweet and sour grouper as my entree.  The grouper was really good.... so soft.  But I didn't like the sweet and sour sauce that much.  The fried rice was delicious.  It also came with prawn crackers.

Grilled Minute Steak Sandwich

Dr. P got the grilled minute steak sandwich with butter lettuce, beefsteak tomato, and red onion on French baguette.  This sandwich was really good.  Even better than my fish.  The steak was cooked perfectly.

Warm Bread Pudding

Warm bread pudding with dark rum anglaise was delicious.

Cooking Light Pear Galette

The Cooking Light pear galette with cranberries and raisins wasn't exactly bad.  But just like previous night's Cooking Light dessert, we felt like there was something missing.  It just didn't taste right.  I guess we just like your normal fattening dessert rather than the healthy light kind.

After the great lunch, we headed to the lounge to play some bingo.  Bingo is so expensive.... $29 for 4 games.  We didn't win, but did had one hour of fun.  Better luck next time!

Yeah, I thought the food was better than Carnival's, too.

  2. I know this post is from ages ago, but I just wanted to clarify that fritters are indeed kind of like deep-fried bread balls with a little bit of something else mixed in, in this case oysters. It still looks good though.

Oh I see. Thanks for the info. Now I know what fritters are. ^^
